2025 NCAA Wrestling Thread

Dake probly best guy out of NY career wise 4x champ then Yianni 4x champ Vito 2x…Other real good ones i followed Nickerson 1x but 4x placer and Jantzen 1x winner 4x placer..If u want go back far there Clar Anderson Banach brothers

I’ve never seen Duke wrestle folk…

The rules favor not wrestling…

Yianni got into trouble wrestling him today…

Duke i think 5x NY champ with no more than 2 losses if that

One loss

Jantzen is two years younger than me. I saw him wrestle a bunch at tournaments. The first time I saw him wreck everybody as an undersized 7th grader, I was stunned, even as I was a 98lb freshman.

I saw him wrestle super technically and then, in the very next match against stronger looking guys, completely change his style and just man handle guys. He’d do all things you’re taught never to do, like reach back, expose your back, etc. No rules for him.

I’ve said it before on this thread, or msyve at the old place - I think grinding out a college career and winning a national championship at Harvard is incredibly special. That room is nothing like a hardcore school.

What duke has been doing, and just did today, has me even more impressed. Can’t wait to see what he’s going to do.

I think it is important to note that until midway through the second period of the second match everyone watching was commenting on how good Yianni is/was…

Not taking anything away, but, it looked like a huge mismatch until it didn’t…

He took a bronze last year at U20…

Seen many kids in the last decade who were not 4Xers who have better stats at the same relative time…

I watched those interviews this morning…

Lee might have some issues…

The issue being his hesitation in the second periods.

His words scream that strong mindset, self critical analysis isn’t a bad thing.

Him being aware of his issue and not being able to address it, that is a bad thing..

He has been wrestling the same since he was 14 years old…

When fix beat him for cadets his specific game plan was just get him to the second and you will win…

His style has not changed, his fast offense has not changed, his strength advantage has not changed, his conditioning hasn’t changed much either.

And honestly, idk if he can get over that hump, ever.

I love it. I’m obviously not one of the world’s best in anything.

I can only imagine how much you have to push yourself mentally, psychologically, emotionally, whatever to get there - let alone physically.

To get to the top of the world’s podium, you gotta be somewhat crazy. Failure is not acceptable.

That is kinda my point…

He can’t change so instead of beating himself up about it just embrace it and work within his confines…

Which is what he’s doing in effect…

All true, but even still, he is highly critical and wants more of himself.

I hope he finds a way.

To be the best at anything…

Wrestling, knitting, business, plumbing…

You have to be a psycho…

It is across the board…

Fair…

I worry sometimes if the boys do not ever win a world or Olympic gold medal if they will feel like they failed…

Clearly from every known metric they are both extremely successful…

But gold medals are not just handed out and I know several who have never fully gotten over not getting that gold…
