valiev and takahashi in a great match 3-2 and valiev tears his knee up early second… you can actually see it pop visually…
awful
valiev tries to continue but can do nothing… gives up a step out and then goes to the edge again and almost gets a go behind but takashi catches it and gets the TD… aliev goes back the center again… takahashi trying to not hurt him and clearly is not interested in continuing but has to go for the TD… he refuses to do any par terre and the dr finally calls it…
decided to sleep in a bit today, got online just in time to see maroulis make it to the semis…
i do not watch much womens wrestling, but, i do have a soft spot for her… 10 world medals so far… 6 of them coming after her coaches tried to kill her pushing her too hard through concussions…
went back to see real woods 10-0 tech his first repechage match in a minute after a quick TD and 4 guts…
watching his next match against india… quick TD for woods some turns and catching woods on his back… end result is 5-2 woods first 20 seconds…
woods adds another non controlled exposure at the end of the first… 7-2 at the break…
india taking it to woods but no real attacks… dives in on a single but woods does not give up the TD with some good defense end of the scramble woods give ups a step out… 7-3…
wash rinse and repeat for another step out 7-4 with about 30 seconds left…
woods stuffs another dive in to go OOB grounded… 5 seconds left and they hit woods for fleeing and that is the final 7-5 woods…
max has sultangali from KAZ off jump… won asians last year but got wrecked by ganiev at ranking series… good sized
then probably fetene from israel… multiple age level medals and silver at senior euro this year…
gets through them it will be Vafa from IRI who is a stud but very young or the north korean who i know nothing about…
edited to add the north korean who i know “nothing” about is the north korean who took bronze at the olympics… i guess i should brush up on my North Korean competitors…
bottom side of the bracket definitely the tougher side…
55kg Raney- assuming he makes weight which is not a foregone conclusion, he will have UKR who has no real accomplishments to note… considering raney still has not ever wrestled a senior level athlete in his career, it will be a good test particularly right off the scale… if he makes it past him, he would have Iraq who was silver at Asians this year…
77kg- Kamal Bey will have Amoyan from armenia off jump… 3X euro gold, 24 bronze at paris, 2X senior world champ, 3X age level world champ, i have to take off my shoes to count the other medals… that is a tough match for anyone o nthe planet…
82kg- our guy Beka Melelasvili has Qatar first… 3rd at asians this year… couple of age level medals… definitely winnable for beka… then would have gurbanov from AZE… multiple time age elvel world champ, won senior euro and the last ranking series… he is legit…
130kg- our guy cohlton schultz… has the long time russian heavy semenov who can throw anyone on the planet… world champ in 2018… bronze at 2021 olympics… took a break and hos won euros last couple of years… that will be tough
63kg- ellis coleman has a good draw with egypt and turkemnistan… both very winnable matches… then would see eriomenco from moldova who is fairly young but not a punk and ready to make a splash on seniors… he was 3rd at euros and won the last ranking tourney…
67kg- alston nutter will have etlingewr from croatia… long in the tooth and not a world beater, but, did win the last ranking series so not a punk by any means… still a winnable match… he actually has a great draw and if he wrestles out of his skin could potentially make the semis…
72kg- sancho will have ghanem from france off the scale… former world champ and won euros this year… that will be a tough match but not totally unwinnable for sancho…
87kg- our guy Payton Jacobsen has kamboj from india first match… really young guy i dont know much about… after that it gets tough with probably komarov from serbia who is legit…
97kg- michial foy… i do not have much faith in foy but he will get his chance to prove me wrong against lithuania…
