1987 had more great movies than any year I can think of.
Princess Bride
Real Men (not gay)
Full Metal Jacket
White Water Summer
North Shore
Lost Boys
La Bamba
Running Man
Hellraiser
Jaws
Lethal Weapon
Monster Squad
Raising Arizona
Harry and the Hendersons
Can’t Buy Me Love
Good Morning Vietnam
Adventures in Babysitting
Spaceballs
Planes, Trains, and Automobiles
Predator
Robocop
Over the Top
The Principal
Dirty Dancing
Fatal Attraction
…the list goes on and on. Crazy this many good movies came out in one calendar year.
I didn’t look at every year in the decade. I was just taken aback at just how many great movies there were in ‘87. Some legendary big budget movies and some cult classics.
When I was in high school, we had something called The Pigskin Pageant before the homecoming game, since the parade was on the Thursday immediately prior to that game. It was a big thing that all of the football and band moms got involved with. At this great big thing, they served dinner that was ham and cheesy taters. For whatever reason, I looked forward to that every year and, even in the intervening 20 years, I’ve gone back for that get together and following football game.
Last night, I went to the Lions meeting. For dinner, we had cheesy taters, ham, a dinner roll and green beans. I sat there and ate it while just about in tears thinking of everything in the past.
