âMatching rightsâ against a major UFC offer is one of those things which can technically be equal on paper, but total bullshit in reality.
We saw this when Bellator exercised their âmatching rightsâ for Eddie Alvarez, where the UFC offer included PPV incentives that Bellator claimed they matched even though they werenât a PPV company and had no PPVs scheduled.
Pico should do whatever it takes to get to the UFC ASAP. If that means waiting out a year, so be it. PFL is a deeply unserious promotion. Offering and rescinding three fights in a year LOL come on.

If they freeze out Pico during his prime, other fighters will take notice before signing with them. PFL should take the L here. They didnt even hold up their part by giving him the fights he was contracted for. Just strung him along. Pico has no desire to fight for them that he would rather sit out a whole year than re-sign. If they give him his outright release they can get some good PR back

They let Pitbull walk. Should do the honorable thing and let Pico walk.
Pitbull is also 39 years old, 1-4 in his last 5 fights and has 3 straight losses.
Easy to cut him loose, esp. since he likely had a very good contract from Coker (him and his bro signed long-term extentions in 2019) and they had no intention of paying a premium to keep him or matching whatever GFL offered.
Pitbull is actually a perfect example of a guy who at his prime had potential to be a legit contender in the UFC but stayed comfortable in the b-leagues, which is what Pico wants to avoid.
