Are UFC Main Events Getting Worse?

What in the world has been going on with UFC main events lately? There definitely appears to be an epidemic of awful fights headlining cards when you ask most fans or people in the sport, but is this even true? What determines the quality of an event even?

I definitely preferred when main events were DC vs Walmart Tire Mechanic

Everything was close to home and the sport was raw, we had stars that stayed in the sport for 15 years and fought 3-4 times a year.

Now it’s a gatekeeper that fights twice a year against and unknown Russian every other main event.

I actually think the main events are fine (for the most part), just the main card quality has gone down significantly, thanks WMMA!

A lot of people who complain about the main events are just casuals who used to follow the UFC and don’t know any modern fighters so they project that same feeling on to everyone else.

And they run forty-some cards a year, so don’t compare main events to a time when they had 4.

The NFL dominates over the other leagues in the US because the games aren’t on constantly. You are giving up the long term for quick money when you oversaturate the market like this. I was the biggest MMA fan on Earth at one point, now I am fine catching the highlights for most events, if even that…

I’m fortunate to get the UFC legally for free and I don’t even bother watching most UFCs anymore.

I just have no interest in the vast majority of the fights.

Bingo. 15 years ago the 4 main events of each weekly card would simply be the main card portion of the PPV.

Another problem with events these days is they don’t build the fighters up in the same way. There are guys that are in the top 5-10 that you are barely aware of because you didn’t watch all the shitty events they came up in.

Back in the day they would have been introduced on events full of stars you wanted to watch (while they were the single unknown, new guy)so you would have seen all their fights but now there are so many events full of shitty/women’s fights you just cant be bothered to watch.

The sport is watered down. And even champions aren’t as big a draw because they are constantly passing the title around.
