Probably the best example of a ref trying to make it about him. Lots of refs fit that criteria in pro sports, but he’s the best example in MMA.

Herbs ego has exploded the past few years and he lets fights go on way too long now, the Dan Hardy incident was the worst one but even just this past Saturday, how do you not jump in and stop Hermanson from taking another bomb after he’s already in the shadow realm?

I guess that’s fair. I think John just wanted the guy to learn how to tap. In bjj, in white belt classes you would be surprised how many kids forget to tap

John and his wife are actually very nice in person. Met him quite a few times. A few days before I think UFC 7 he let me get in the octagon (shoes removed of course). It’s quite a bit spongier than I imagined.

This. It is astounding how normal people who have never trained just dont know to tap. They either dont know its a thing, or cant recognize the spot theyre in til its too late. Happens all the time. Now apply this to the mid 1990s where no one had seen BJJ before.
