For sporting purposes, and exercise, all of those things are good. Very good, the Greeks love wrestling because it’s just for the body and mind
For MMA purposes, I think submission wrestling is better because of the nogi fixation and take Downs versus throws… very different in intent and structure.
For real world self-defense, you want something that has a military application and there is no military BJJ. Going to the ground is extremely bad in combat. You lose all of your mobility… and grunts tend to wear a lot of equipment which is horrible when wrestling… try it sometime
The best Sambo in America is in NY, NJ and PA. My coaches father was on the 1st sambo team. Combat Sambo is the best martial art for self defense.
Sport Sambo is straight leg locks and armlocks, pins and no chokes.

We have some Russians in our Judo club, and they make the transition pretty easily. The throws are about the same, but these guys are tough. I am biased but learning Judo and Sambo can get you pretty far. We have a lot of kids as we are the 2nd largest USJA club here in the US.
Yes , your appreciation of the gi, without relying on it heavily, will be much better
And taking down big guys is easier than throwing them
