Seriously though
@Cuttin_in told me he would let you pull his drawers. And you totally should.
Does anyjuan want to meat up at his place in September?
Been a very long time since I’ve made stock-removal knives. Means just what it sounds like. All cutting and grinding, no real forging except for the logo stamping and straightening. No jigs or precision tools, all freehand. I don’t even use a tool rest.
I forgot how much it sucks doing the work like this lol.
And now I’m looking forward to doing the next round of proper forged knives.
These are getting gun-blued and stonewashed in just a bit.
Quarter Sawn
These boards have end grain with growth rings of 60 – 90 degrees to the surface where the medullary rays of the lumber are split during the cutting process causing a unique “fleck” pattern to emerge. This pattern is mostly pronounced in White Oak flooring creating a very unique look.
Rift Sawn
These boards have end grain with growth rings of 45 degrees to the surface, producing a very linear grain pattern. This lumber is produced from the outer wedge of the quarter sawing process as the sawyer works his way from the inside to the outside of the wedge.
The stain is reacting to something in the old wood, leaving a sheen in spots.
She was in a hurry to put stuff back so … or it is not curing properly because the wood soaked up more stain in those areas.
I could take a great nap there…temperature and humidity depending…
not patronizing but it kinda makes it more interesting, better feels from it because of those nuances but im a sucker for shit like that in earthy type stuff. and as mentioned below it looks very napable!
Nice work fuckers.
I’m about a month from finishing up a new 30,000 sqft office. When it’s picture ready, i’ll try to post some.
Getting started on a building addition for a life sciences/chem/bio company now. been in design and municipal approvals for a year. Sitework sub got in for me early spring and kicked the shit out of it. I’ve got binder down on the new drive and loading dock but haven’t even started concrete footings, piers, and walls yet. Just got my rebar shop drawings to review. This is a new approach for me on a ground up but I like it to be honest.
You got this.
I did the work for morning teas on the porch after <>?" @#$$ … I will try to get a nap in also and report back.
well now youve gone and takin it up several notches, i was happy vicariously thinking about the peaceful nap there
there was stucco work posted earlier. without question, the work done was great.
However, I hate that stuff. Here in the Northeast, insurance wants to know if we do Stucco or EIFS. If you do, they jack your insurance up. It is just too issue prone here.
I built a 3 story office with EIFS back in 2016 and it hasn’t had issues (aside from color fade) but I expect it will someday. I dont’ think I would ever agree to add it to a project again though. My sub who did it for me was good but he died a few years ago. Cancer sux.
U built that?
Yep.
The lawn mower and other yard stuff are under the deck on the right.
Quartzite and sandstone stairs with boulder retaining that came from onsite.
Died and stamped concrete
Those stairs are top notch!
The reason I appreciate you guys so much is; working in construction, I run into a lot of people who don’t know what they’re doing. More specifically, they know just enough to convince people with zero frame of reference that they’re an expert. It is exhausting, man. I’m building a high end theater and we’ve got a bunch of the team there to consult with an “expert” on soundproofing. We designed it so the walls are decoupled, designed for a floating floor, all floors in the house sit on open trusses instead of joists. Everything is built 11/10, and this fucker comes in throwing around fancy words and talking in circles. He didn’t know dick and wasted everyone’s time. I don’t have time to deal with guys like that. My home automation guy brought him in because he’s the regional rep for a lot of the brands we use and he was led to believe dude had all of the skills and experience we are looking for. Not the case.
So…you guys who take pride in your work and have cultivated a unique set of skills; thank you.
