I’ll always remember how Bisping beat the breaks off Cung Lee. It wasn’t even close.
every hair follicle was juiced!
He’s like Carwin in the sense that he probably would have been a world beater if he started about 10-15 years sooner. I thought Man with the Iron Fists was awesome.
I remember all the hype about him in sanshou. Thought he was going to get crushed in mma but turned out to be a great fighter.
His sweeps are pretty awesome. Definitely helped with his td defense having that background.
Cung was great to watch when he first popped on the mma scene, his kicks were awesome
Yeah he was doing San Da and San Shou in the 90’s. He was all over inside Kung Fu back in the day.
I thought the opposite – and that’s not a brag-- because I’ve been wrong a lot.
Just my opinion at the time.
I predicted he would be a force in MMA before he made the move. I was telling guys I traned with I wish he would.
One friend of mine in particular liked to argue with me about it and take the opposite position. So I had a bunch of conversations about it before it happened.
My take on it was he clearly had the striking that would be more elite relative to MMA than kickboxing. And he had slick takedowns in San Shou with an emphasis on explosiveness due to the time limit in the clinch.
Obviously there would be adjustments to be made, a wrestling focused MMA fighter presents a different challenge.
But I figured the talent and drive to reach the top of his chosen sport – along with the skills that directly translated – would make him a force.
And I really wanted to see it – and glad we got to.
For the 2 Scott smith fights in strikeforce alone dude is a fucking legend.
Plus that pandorum movie or whatever it was called was actually pretty good.
