i’ve never seen a single episode of The Wire, but I’m fully aware of its legendary status
just returned from a few days in Baltimore, actually, and it made me want to start The Wire even more (i unknowingly partook in a mini street “takeover” on one of those lime scooters along with like 100 kids from down the hood lol)
some of the biggest Sopranos fans I know, even give the edge to The Wire
The Wire is great but dont expect the low level gangbang shit to continue. I was disappointed in this the first time I tried watching ages ago. The story takes some turns but is still solid all the way through. I binged the show recently and enjoyed it.
Sopranos is rough for me and I still havent gotten very far but once my Netflix sub is up I’ll continue with Sopranos. Definitely think the Wire is better than Sopranos. At least the first season is.
Bunch of ADHD motherfuckers on here. I guess long form storytelling isn’t for everyone🤷♂️ Does it hold up, yes, it’s a an absolute masterpiece. Every season is fantastic although season 5 is weaker than the others.
The Wire is the absolute closest portrayal to law enforcement, office politics, city politics, inner city drug scene that I’ve ever seen in any movie/TV show.
It can be slow for some people because that’s how law enforcement is. Slight spoiler…I think out of the 5 seasons, there were less than 4 officer involved shootings. I literally played or worked with every law enforcement character in the show and pretty much dealt with every politician in my career.
After the 1st ep, I had to go look it up as I knew that the tech advisors had to be law enforcement or former.
Crazy thing is…I wouldn’t even classify it as a “cop” show. It is a show with a lot of cops filling the roles of main characters…most of the time.
@ActiveMeasures Only managed 3 start to finish watches. It’s brilliant but some of it is pretty heavy going, 8 times is lot you sicko. You must be dead inside😁
It absolutely does. Season 2, while not well liked among die hards, happens to be my favorite season…Really puts into perspective the size and scope of the drug trade…
@Billco On first viewing season 2 was so jarring with the change of setting for the majority of the season but on subsequent viewings i love season 2. Frank is a fucking classic character.
Ziggy, what a monumental fuck up, but another great tv character. Nicky is quality, a tough cookie and we would be remiss to not give his girlfriend with the big ass tits a shout out…
