So, Elon’s plan is not to win a General Election. It is to target a small number of House seats. Say 10-20. Win them. Then be a leveraging party. A spoiling party. Requiring the ruling party to give concessions to get majorities. Stop legislation they don’t like, and requiring inclusion of polices they do.
If they can pull it off it is a smart play. Get a lot of power for only a small number of seats.
But Musk is leaving himself vulnerable too.

None of us could have predicted a third political party - run by Elon Musk - going against Trump by early July. I knew Trump and Musk would end up arguing at some point, but the fallout has been even more spectacular than I ever thought possible.
Trump’s been a major disappointment during this second term. When he won the election there was a wave of genuine positivity, and his early weeks were incredible, but things have gone off the rails pretty badly IMHO.
People are going to disagree, because they hate Zelensky, but that ambush in the Oval Office felt like a major turning point. It was so badly handled and the optics were awful when you consider the innocent people getting bombed daily, and his perceived weakness when it comes to Putin. American’s have always been seen to have compassion. That was a bad look from JD/Trump, who came across like a couple of bullies.
The tariff situation was/is a joke, and made Trump look like a fool. I have no issue with them in principle (and was happy when he started playing hard-ball with China), but the way they were on/off/on/off was laughable. Trump looked incredibly weak.
Then you have Israel/Iran, which has been a shit-show, and again, has Trump looking weak. Sure, he ordered strikes and dropped bombs, but his sucking-up to Netanyahu has been embarrassing. This, coupled with him tap-dancing around Putin; it’s been a real shame to witness, especially from a man that labels himself as a tough negotiator.
It’s not been all bad, but I’ve certainly been shocked at how quickly things have turned sour. It’ll be interesting to see how Musk’s new party fares.

I think DJT is mad mostly because he’d dreamt of the Trump family becoming something like the Bush family and with a 3rd party there’s zero chance of that happening. It’s his own doing: he had an amazing first 30 days and then he went off the rails.
