Solid fundamental advice, thanks.

He perfected the casting technique that Igor made famous. To the layman, Igor seemed to be throwing haymakers with reckless abandon but there was a method to his madness. It was like casting a net. You swing around someone’s guard and hit with your primary knuckles 90% of the time which avoids self inflicted knuckle damage. Its usually Russian/Ukrainians that throw this way. Its devasting in the ground, especially. If you watch Fedor vs Nog 1 or Igor vs Enson its very hard to defend and the impact is crazy loud.

I’m so fucking tired, I clicked this wondering wtf Fedor is doing teaching stand-up comedy. Well, that’s my cue, I’m going to bed.

Okay :ok_hand:

I did a Fedor Seminar in AC back in 2005 and he kicks really different.

He kicks with the side of his ankle instead of the shin.

He says if it’s checked, there’s less nerves there so it won’t hurt you.

I never heard of that before and he was right

It’s also that you can land a hand to do throws, clinch, tec. It can a be a grappling setup, not just a strike.

Fedor used this technique well to close the distance. Lunging in and then dropping a guy with a throw or a trip.

Also interesting in the video he emphasizes keeping his hands up and very tight, but in the latter half of his career he kept his hands pretty low.

I read the thread title and thought Fedor had started doing comedy.

Great video of Fedor teaching some of the fundamental techniques he used in fights. You could tell just from the movements alone that it was him - very distinctive and effective style.

That time was a real golden age of MMA - I’m glad i was a fan then. Not sure how I’d feel if i got into mma now.

Understand, we are still waiting on another Fedor.

Hi NPR!

I am not understanding what you mean by primary knuckles.
In this picture are they the top, middle or bottom knuckles?

Ia thwre any video wherw we can see him doing this?

I am curious to see what it looks like.

Thanks either way for the info!
