Under the Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts, you cannot strike an opponent with your groin, but you can use your body weight and position to smother them. Technically, this maneuver exists in a legal loophole, provided the fighter is not using a hardened cup as a weapon or striking with the groin. However, its legality depends heavily on how the referee interprets specific rules regarding active offense and unsportsmanlike conduct. The fighter on top can use their hips, lower abdomen, and thighs to pin the bottom fighter’s head, covering their nose and mouth. Forcing an opponent to inhale canvas and shorts is legal. ---
