Hearn Offers to ‘walk away’ From Benn ‘legal situation’ if Dana Releases Aspinall

I think Hearns thinks Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaspinall is a bigger name than he really is. Nobody cares about watching him box.

This. He had a mountain of hype behind him and that’s pretty much gone (Gane? :joy:) now.

Does the boxing community even know who he is? Why would they? And why would they care?

It’s not like Aspinall went on some generational run, defended his belt 8 times, and is looking to catapult to boxing stardom. Now he’s just a dude that hasn’t finished a fight in 2.5 years or beaten anyone for his belt.

I was a huge Tom fan. I wanted to see him keep blasting people in 30 seconds and have a dominant reign. He was the shock the division needed. Instead we have a guy crying to Uncle Dana to release him from the contract.

Why would I defend a guy who has now publicly confirmed he doesn’t even want to be in there? This is our “undisputed” champ. Pathetic. It’s completely disrespecting the title he claimed all that time he wanted.

Well it’s probably not too big a deal for Hearns to pay him more than Dana is paying him.. But maybe, which would be pretty awesome, He’s going to start Promoting MMA and competing with Dana, since Dana is doing Boxing now:grin:

I think its a bad call by Aspinall just because the UFC will happily tie it up in court for years on end.
And once you end up on their shit list there is no good answer. Colby was their golden boy for a little while and listening to his shit fit tantrum recently was a peak behind the curtain, where he said what they do is offer you a fight on short notice and then if you don’t take it they ice you out and offer nothing for as long as they legally can effectively benching you for as long as possible. And then the process can be repeated.
And then Dana can sit there going, ‘the kid just doesn’t wanna fight’

I’d rather it be an MMA fight, I’d for sure be in. But a boxing match would be a tad underwhelming IMO. Not saying I wouldn’t watch.

I feel that

Yeah, that’s fucked up. Shady ass tactics.

Aspinall was fucked with the JBJ thing than the eyepokes. But he has reacted so badly he lost a lot of his appeal. I just don’t get it. In this, both the UFC and Tom lose. Not like anyone is winning here!

If Tom comes back, fights and wins, all will be forgotten, so just compete! As fans, it just sucks to see so many champs being so inactive. Sure, in Pride FC sometimes the top guys fought cans, but at least they were active. When Khamzat dominates without getting struck and takes one year off, when Islam wins in a minute and takes 6 months off, WTF.

Merab and Pererta made $$$ with being active champs.

“I will tell you the number in time, if we get to that. UFC fans, everybody will be sick to their stomach about the money Tom Aspinall is supposed to get for that fight, for the revenue that exists for that fight. It’s not fair.”

From the article.

Is he not aware that this has been an issue that the fans have been aware of for years?

Listen, I think the ufc pays like shit for the most part but this bullshit of signing a contract and then whining like a little bitch because you aren’t making enough money on the contract you signed needs to stop.

Honour your contracts and if you don’t like the contract, don’t sign it. If you want to be paid like a boxer, either negotiate that in your contract or go be a boxer when you aren’t under contract.

I think the point of contention for Tom, as might be for any other Champ or for example Conor, is that previously the champs earned PPV points as part of being champ. Now that there is no PPV its been said that they have had to rework alot of contracts. So its possible that Tom has no existing contract under the new platform. But is still under UFC control.

Hiring Hearn will be the biggest mistake of Tom’s career. The UFC isn’t going to pay him more than they’re currently contractually obliged to, and they’re not going to release him. He really has no leverage here. He’s not popular, he’s not a draw, and he’s never defended his title. Yes, that might be partially Jon Jones’ fault, but fans don’t care and have a shitty memory. And they’ll all forget about him completely once Poatan is champion. At best, he gets stripped of his title, and sits idle during his prime, and becomes another what if. If he’s smart, which it really seems that he isn’t, he keeps quite, fights out his contract, and leaves.

Or Dana says, fuck this guy he’s another Francis and Lets him go. And Tom fights Francis for 10Milly which would take him 5 years to earn at the UFC

You really think petty Dana white is going to just release him to go immediately fight for the guy Dana’s beefing with?

Hiring Hearn at this stage seems like a weird move for this reason. The interviews I read with Tom this seems like his plan, or at least he talks about more fights in the ufc but Hearn is out there saying he won’t let him fight for the ufc under his current contract.

I mean, dude could be out of his contract in a year or two with another $5-10mil in his pocket most likely if he just fought whoever was put in front of him.

Dana didn’t let Francis go though did he? He fought out his contract. I’m sure he would’ve shelved him as well if given the chance.

francis had some weird expiration date on his contract. Which is why he was able to leave after his last fight without dealing with being frozen out for a year during “matching rights”
