If I’m not mistaken my ex wife was related to some of the founders. I talked to some high up guys and I believe they were legit bad asses.

How do you compare them? Sakuraba was fighting CroCop, Igor, Vanderlei, Belfort, etc. and Rickson was fighting…Takada?
Sakuraba would easily stuff Rickson’s shitty ass takedowns and beat his non-existant striking OR beat him by kimura.
For me it has nothing to do with Rickson and everything to do with that guy not understanding that era of training and fighting at all. It was totally disorganized, everyone was an exaggerator or flat out liar and some were just delusional about their abilities. This dipshit demanding I produce opponents and records to validate my lived experience is laughable and a perfect example of a conversation that 100% wouldn’t evolve this way in person. He’s just a fucking dork and I don’t think anyone saying Rickson might have beaten sakuraba is a big Rickson lover. It’s just an opinion on a hypothetical match and then the dorks want to get in the weeds about “how things were” and argue with people that were actually around and doing it. It’s nauseating and it’s why we don’t have a lot of these threads anymore. Last time one of threads popped up I had a guy demand I post videos of my fights and Jiu jitsu tournament wins lmfao. I said I’d rather not be doxxed and that wasn’t good enough even though other people vouched that I did those things because we have mutual acquaintances. A lot of the newer guys here are dorks that have never trained and honestly that’s perfectly fine, but some are salty about it as if I’m stopping them from going and doing shit they’re afraid of doing. Gets old.

As far as I can tell Rickson went 400-0 then immediately retired from all competition as soon as video cameras and record keeping became a thing its a weird coincidence.

I’m not training right now but I have years of training and sparring, plan to go back this year at some point (maybe BJJ). I feel because of that I have more respect for fighting and fighters themselves, especially given that I’ve sparred a bunch but never stepped in a ring or cage myself.
If you’ve competed you have no obligation to prove anything to anyone. It’s the same with the other guys on the board who have had fights.
But yes you’re right about the lying and delusional nature of how guys thought they would do against others at that time, which sort of isn’t that different from how delusional people are now about their own skills. But at least back then it wasn’t something that was verifiable.
Fighting each other in Brazil was the only way to “prove” it, nobody cared or even thought about records.
