How much money's should a man my age have?

Just remember that in real terms you won’t gain a penny from any market gains… Thats just inflation.

Of course but just saying lots of people save a fraction of what they need because they think cumulative market gains will take care of the rest. Thats all just inflation.

Ya at least keep gold if youre going to do that.

Would need to know more about your career cycle and where you are in life. Can you say any more?

I spent 8+ years in the military after undergrad (making/saving decent money because of my job) but not really getting my career started until I was just over 30… when I was 37, I was probably still a bit behind the curve, but more than made up for it by the time I was 45. Everybody’s path is different.

That adds up to a lot of money wasted these days.

I have never had a “career” of sorts. Just held down random jobs over teh years. I live alone and most money i spend goes on rent, car and dog insurance and food.

I have been putting money asside like I say for a rainy day.

I am confused what people mean exactly by saying about investing money rather than save an accumulated ammount. I know nowt all about investing.

At that age its less about how much you have and more about how much you owe.

If you are debt free or have little debt, getting back on your feet and building a nest egg is not the hardest thing to do.

The whole unemployed thing is weird, there is work everywhere.

Especially in Biden’s America.

I can actually save over that outside of dumb shit like $1100 for endoscopy and still waiting on pathology bill, stupid shit like that. That’s only because my rent is relatively low, but it’s going up $200 next month. I’m looking to buy a house but these prices would all have me paying double what I pay now.

I’ve been doing this in the bank, haven’t invested shit but am gun shy. In the 90’s my Mom had our money invested and we lost it all between 9/11 and Merrill Lynch doing some sketchy trades. Ended up evicted out of our house, I had no idea she had stopped paying the mortgage again.

Every time I dabble in anything, I lose it. I know I need to do something, but am trying to stay liquid to get back into working for myself again when the time is right.

Thread is about OP who has nothing. I don’t think giving him advice based on the top few percent of people is very useful.

My father taught me the best way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket! He died young without any real savings…

Enough for an 8 ball and a couple of hookers now and then should be enough. I mean, what good is money if you’re not having some fun.

Vid was a YouTube short that were among many different variety of subject shorts that I watched one after another. Can’t find it through a brief search using “girl doesn’t understand credit card” , and it’s not important enough to me to convince anyone that I did see the video instead of making it up to put anymore effort into finding it. The girl and her mom were in a car/suv if I remember right. So search for the vid yourself trying other keywords if it’s that important to you.

100k plus saved i thought was 10% ?

i want to believe you more though. lol
