It gets substantially harder at around a minute in.

You should teach him the first few minutes of Debussy’s Clair de lune.
Slow pace but beautiful.

I will eventually. I’m going to test him next week. I want to show him the pattern to make major scales, and his homework will be figuring out different scales we didn’t work on in lesson.

What’s with the classical stuff? Teach him to play something with soul.

His mom just sent me a message. He’s played since he got home. I’m gonna walk in next week as the student lol

I watched YouTube videos to learn enough to teach my kids and they are both much better than I am.
I just labeled keys so I guess the groupings are what you call scales? I literally have no knowledge but can play decently.

Many types of scales. But basically they are a set group of notes played in a specific order. Based on the intervals, you get a different type of scale.

Most western music is based off of the major or minor scale.

Just enough to be able to sit down at a piano and play for a bit.

Well, I think the mother is happy. She’s told a ton of people, and I now have 7 new students to start next week!

Now you will have to have the unfortunate conversation that either starts or ends with “you’re just not as talented as the autistic kid, sorry”.

Actually there’s a pretty easy trick if a student isn’t working out… Just make it boring.

imo, all “real”/true musicians…song writers, producers, etc. can play the piano

i personally do not consider someone a full “musician” unless they can read/play notes, and also play the piano (even if they focus on another instrument)
