Joaquin Buckley’s another one of those. Not as skilled as Rountree though. He’s on this card too. Always wanted to see him and Krause get it on when they had that feud.
You can tell Dana loves these kinds of fighters. Gotta have those guys that provide highlight KO’s, but also get KO’d themselves so they don’t build too much value in “winning”. Unless he thinks you’re REALLY marketable, then he’ll help you get the belt with favorable matchups.
People don’t like it but it’s true. Nobody has been able to solve it. If we think about every technique that has ever graced MMA, almost every one has been figured out.
And id like to add that any legal strike can cripple or end someone’s career. Joe Valtelinni had to retire after a fight that he won due to severe lasting concussion symptoms. He had to sit in a dark room for 2 weeks to keep from getting vertigo. I think hes commentating now and last i heard was still dealing with head problems. That fight was 10 yrs ago.
TJ Grant had to retire from a concussion in training when he was supposed to fight for the title.
Dig,respect, all is fair.for this is an agree to disagree point for me,and just my personal opinion as someone who’s been training for many decades.as a lifelong long martial artist the biggest thing to me now is injury ,above all else(techniques,$,status, rank, ego etc).so any action that will prevent this ,is taboo for me,for i hold the spirit of a lifelong martist as the highest goal.i understand others not holding this as anythiing of value at all.but now, as an elder, this is my view.respect it or not for both sides are correct, their is no rt or wrong on this topic.only consequenses…
Also i was train’d/taught as kid from an okinawan sensei who taught us to respect a universal maritsal arts spirit (vs only a personal warrior spirit)for you as well as your breddah…budo…so i wish for all to be able to train till they die.so anything that prevents this is kapu…may you all live and train a long life…ax’e…
Does Roundtree have a history of maliciously trying to injure his opponents with illegal techniques and/or engaging in practices that are regarded within the sport of MMA as unsportsmanlike?
If not, the singular example shown is a split-second legal strike and there’s no reason to think his goal was to maim his opponent. Might as well bitch about Michael Page’s jump knee to Cyborg Santos or Uriah Hall’s spinning heel kick to Adam Cella, and then go change your tampon.
I think it is worth mentioning, that I believe he caught a bunch of shit for it online because it caused an injury. The fact that he didn’t use it in his most recent fights is worth noting. Maybe he thought it would leave him open to be countered against Alex, maybe he is steering away from the strike as a personal decision. I don’t know, it could be guilt. He’s not a bad guy, never has been. His build carries immense power and when the circumstances that led to injury happen all at once, the result is devastating.
