I believe that this was actually explained that the Windows 95 technology was a direct result of the craft we recovered and we had at Area 51. We were finally able to reverse engineer it and apparently it was still compatible with their systems. Don’t shoot the messenger!

I literally said the same thing to myself when I watched it the other day
I do notice the irony of most of you missing out how in the movie they rejoice when they finally down an alien ship… yet you guys feel outrage when say Iraqis do the same with fallen US planes - and pilots - that had been bombing them with impunity.
