This is true. It’s easy to say he only fights old men and guys way smaller. There’s truth to that. But he also signed to fight guys who have fought at a world championship level in boxing or mma and he’s got zero amateur experience and started as an adult with a huge target on his back. I don’t like Jake Paul, but then again, heels in boxing are always more important than baby faces.
Fighting Tyson Fury wasnt a circus sideshow for him. It was him being a legitimate boxer getting a shot at the heavyweight title vs the (at that time) best boxer in the division.
Im trying to see this from his perspective not ours
He was an 0-0 boxer getting a shot he did not deserve at a title in a sport that he had never competed in. It was absolutely a circus act, he only did it for money and he said so at the time.
If dana had given in to his demands he never would have boxed.
He wanted to be a boxer before he got into mma. Then he chose to not be a boxer and to do something more lucrative instead. Until it was more lucrative to be a boxer for a few months, then he wanted to be that again.
He, like most fighters, is delusional. He might have convinced himself he deserved a crack at Tyson after he decided to leave the UFC, but even as dumb as he is he knew it was a circus act. He said over and over Conner did it, why shouldn’t he be able to.
I think everyone would define that Connor x Floyd fight as a freak show cash grab. That is what Francis replicated, no way did he think his was more serious.
He was on this commie fighters union kick and decided the universe owed him 10’s of millions of dollars to fight, and he knew the spectacle UFC vs Boxing championship fight was the way to do that.
I don’t disagree with you, but that’s not how Francis saw it. I think he thinks he is above circus fights and that’s why he thinks fighting Jake is below him.
Whether you or I or anyone else thinks that’s exactly what his boxing matches were
I think we’re probably closer to agreement than it looks.
I do think he thinks he deserved to fight Tyson. But I think he knew it was a circus fight and thought he deserved that payday more than that he actually deserved a shot at the HW title.
I don’t doubt he thought he could beat Tyson. Fighters are delusional, they think they can beat anyone. I think 99.99% of the times people say “x person is scared to fight y person” they are dead wrong. Francis and Jon is a good example, I don’t think either of them are scared of the other even a little bit.
But I do think he knows it is a circus act, he just thinks he deserved it and Jake doesn’t. In reality Jake deserves to fight him more than he deserved to fight Tyson Fury, in my opinion.
