We don’t actually know. That 30 number comes from public comments Jones made about wanting big money previously.

We don’t know what negotiations went on with the UFC, we only know Jones’ final number required the UFC to go away and discuss internally and then when they came back and agreed to it (with apparently their Saudi backers kicking in more) Jones initially agreed and then changed his mind and turned it down a few days later.

I don’t believe the reports that it was actually $30M. IMO Thats just too large for someone who has lost so much money via suspensions and being dropped by sponsors to turn down, regardless of ego about his undefeated streak. Dude is 38yrs old and is widely disliked so doesn’t have commentary, or sponsorship opportunities to carry him through 50+yrs of retirement.
