I don’t know the terms of the contracts signed but the UFC have cancelled many fights before so there would likely have been a way.
Jones beat Gane last March and Tom became interim champion in November. The obvious fight in make in 2024 first was Jones vs Aspinall.

It pissed me off that the commentary crew was still hyping up Stipe during the fight.
Call it what it is. Stipe was brought in to get squashed and Jones wanted an easy “legacy” fight he had 99% chance of winning. Just say Stipe had zero business being in the cage at his age and condition.

I get they cant say it like that because it makes them and the sport look bad (rightfully so) but i agree, the lengths they go to push a narrative and assume we’re all just morons that will believe them over our own eyes…that is what bothers me a bit.

I keep seeing this said on here and it’s hard to agree. If getting caught taking steroids multiple times didn’t exclude him from the goat conversation or destroy his legacy then him handpicking fighters in his late 30’s in the weakest division in the ufc isn’t going to either. Only people who already didn’t like him will care and to this people his legacy has been tarnished for years already.

Jon is engaging in public negotiations to get what he wants for fighting Tom. If he doesn’t fight Tom it will be because the ifc wouldn’t meet his number. It’s really that simple and if you think otherwise you probably love pro wrestling.
