Kimo Being Introduced

As a 3rd degree black belt in Taekwondo at UFC 3 is pretty hilarious.

Although Rich didn’t say “in Taekwondo”, he just said “a third degree black belt”, then moved on to his height and weight.

Even though the promo beforehand already said it was TKD, for some reason I always felt like Rich didn’t say that part on purpose.

Did they give Kimo a bare-knuckle record?

I remember watching an old king of the cage event and one guy claimed to be a fourth degree black belt in Gracie Jiu Jitsu. He got wrecked rather easily.

Before the juuuuice. Test, deca, d bol body in the UFC, holding a bunch of water

I remember when he died. Glad he’s ok.
Hard to believe that was 16 years ago.

Kimo was a 3rd degree black belt in Rampage Jackson’s famous discipline “Whoop That Ass Style” :martial_arts_uniform:

Kimo touches on this in the interview I posted above that he did with The Hannibal TV a few years back. Apparently Kimo was told a black belt was needed in his practicing discipline at the time to be accepted into the UFC. He says his TKD instructor gave him this so he could compete in the tournament. He says he felt comfortable with his kicks at the time, but was not a 3rd degree black belt in the discipline.

BTW, I heard your shout out on the recent @MMAHistoryPodcast Congratulations man! I’m a big fan of your thread! Keep up the great work!
