Basically, Candace Owens’ origin story is that she was a left-leaning individual who rose to prominence during the Gamergate era with a proposed anti-online bullying initiative named ‘Social Autopsy’. It never went into effect and was widely criticised for being unworkable and potentially illegal.

Under any normal circumstance, this would have blown over and been forgotten in a few weeks.

However, professional victim Zoe Quinn demanded that Owens shut down Social Autopsy because it conflicted with Quinn’s own site ‘Crash Override Network’, which was a SCAM. When Owens refused, Zoe Quinn had a meltdown and demanded to talk via email, threatening that if she didn’t, ‘Gamergate’ would somehow ‘get her’.

In the following 48 hours, Owens received over a hundred abusive messages and threats, calling her the N-Word and telling her to off herself. The thing is, all this harassment was on Owen’s private email account that she didn’t give out to strangers…and the only person she’d recently given it to was Zoe Quinn. Whoops!

Then Quinn tweeted a screenshot of her email conversation with Owens, mocking her for claiming to have an intern. Which proved that she’d shared the email address with her cronies, who were the ones sending threats and harassment to Owens. Whoops again! This led to Zoe Quinn deleting her entire public-facing Twitter account, for the THIRD TIME.

Candace Owens started interacting with rightwing figures online, which (bizarrely) led her to become a conservative pundit.
