I’d like to hear his take on training Kimo and game plan for Ken Shamrock fight as well as experiences working with Rich Franklin & Josh Barnett.
Also a rundown of his fight career. He had some legendary matchups - Shamrock, Delucia, Suzuki, Paulson, Miletich. And of course, Kenny Monday in The Contenders.
Yes. Silverado married Gene’s ex-wife. He was married to her when he started training with Gene. The only interview of him I have come across was one he did a few years back with Level Up Grappling podcast. It’s on Apple & Spotify podcasts. He goes into detail on this. It was a solid interview, but looking forward to @MMAHistoryPodcast@HerbDeansDogSitter getting him to do a deep dive. Would be interesting to have John Perretti and/or John Lewis, John Donehue sit in on that one.
I always saw Ken as being a top fighter but as the years wore on, I started seeing him as being a bit overrated. His submission skills were good but not great and his striking skills were average at best.. his wrestling was decent - it’s just in the early days he was strong and athletic + submission knowledge and that was enough to allow him to beat most opponents ..
A Ruas/Shamrock fight wpuld have been very interesting
It’s funny that peretti has a story of a roided out Shamrock chasing him all over the place one night as Peretti made comments about Mikey Burnett
Oh yeah for sure! A lot of guys that have been lost that would have been amazing interviews for the show. Evan Tanner, Kevin Randleman, Cal Worsham, Justin Eilers, Shawn Tompkins, Kimbo. I could go on. Phyllis Lee & Bob Shamrock would have been amazing interviews as well!
Thanks, I did listen to this earlier this year SMH, too damn old to remember anything. I just re-listened to this entire podcast this morning! Man Perretti is so much fun to listen to.
I went to Gokor’s only one time, but sadly Lebell wasn’t there (he only taught on certain nights and it wasn’t one of them). I got to roll with Gokor for a few minutes and I started in his guard and he effortlessly rolled me around and submitted me like 5 times in 2 minutes. In the other corner on their own were Manny and Karo rolling the entire class. They were still teenagers at the time, but even then everyone knew they were at “another level” (much like Genki at BHHJJ…he was the best “student” at that time on the mats out of all of us).
Jesus Christ I can’t remember anything anymore, lol.
Holy crap, missed this one and just started listening…so crazy to see Igor laughing and smiling throughout the entire interview (45 minutes in so far). He seemed like an absolute Terminator killer in the cage when he fought showing no emotion. Love to see it, thanks!!!
I just love how Mike and Joey are able to talk with Perretti. Like 99% of people probably couldn’t handle that type of pressure, sarcasm, wit, etc. but you guys do a phenomenal job of not taking things personally, but also hold him accountable and keep the conversation going for hours.
It would be very entertaining to watch Rogan try to wrangle in Perretti like they do. Peretti has a wealth of MMA History for that pioneering era and I hope we get that episode one day but I don’t think Rogan’s ego would be up for it like Mike and Joey. Even if it went south it would be such an entertaining episode.
Rogan has said in the past he would be willing to have Perretti on. Either he was lying then or he’s changed his mind. I don’t think Rogan has the personality type to be patient with him.
