Chael says so many bizarre things that I dont know where to start. For example he says “there’s no way this guy is fighting in England” when in fact I’ve fought there 5 times. Four of those times it was for a title. Every one of those 5 fights I was the main event or co-main event. Why would he say im not good enough to fight there? It is so false that he has to be on ambien again. The thing with Chael is he says whatever comes to his mind trying to be clever but if he cant be even remotely accurate hes got to put the pipe down.
This is all accurate and I appreciate your honest take on the fight. I was never an amazing fighter and the UFC guys at that time in my weight class were Hermes Franca, BJ Penn, Sean Sherk, Matt Serra etc.. they were all better than me and I was just thankful to be spoken of in those circles. And finally. Who even cares?!?!?! I fought 1 time in the UFC and lost in 3 minutes. Why is Chael even talking about me? Im a nobody!
Nahhhhhhhhhhhh
Truth
Gerald sounds like a super sweet guy, I wish people took 10 minutes to actually read his story before they comment one way or another. I hope he’s doing well today (and that he’s still Bangkok ready).

Facts. This interview was posted on Reddit and I went to bat for @GSTREBENDT in the comments. I got one guy to listen to Gerald’s interview and it totally changed what the guy thought and now he is Team Gerald lol.
Just finished episode 301 which is another banger! @MMAHistoryPodcast it was great to hear the roundtable and everyone else’s experiences with Rafael. Looking forward to part 3!
phenom
I’ve been on the UG since the beginning and my recollection of Rafiel Torre was where the fuck did this guy come from and why was Kirik and others treating him like reverence?
When Torre was all over the UG and was even given moderator status, my spidey senses told me that something was off with this guy. His prominence in the mma scene almost came too quickly to me. His work was alright, but nothing to write home about, they just came off as a being a bunch of fanboyish type interviews. To his credit, at least he didn’t offer up retarded takes like with Elias Cepeda but yeah, at one point Torre was everywhere on the scene and we had to give him props for that.
Whenever I’d see his picture, it wouldn’t sit right with me because it doesn’t align with the image of him being a badass fighter and BJJ Black Belt from Brazil. I also wondered if he was even Brazilian as he looked more Mexican to me.
So when I saw that he was going to compete in ADCC. I was surprised but also very curious and interested in the result. I was thinking is this guy serious? There’s no way that he’d be able to hang against world class grapplers and he didn’t disappoint lol.
I never cared to follow the drama that ensued with him, this is just to say that I was never fond of him as being a legit badass, that’s all.
interesting post
I’m not going to say that I knew that he was fraud but something was definitely off with him.
It’s like one of those guys you’d like to hate but can’t because he was revered by the entire community.
When he lost in ADCC in under a minute, it provided me with some relief in that my intuition wasn’t off lol.
Round table episode was another really interesting listen today. The guests played off each other well and it was very respectful discussion too with no one talking over each other and everyone adding insightful comments.
And that round table format brought out some good stories even like little things that would otherwise be forgotten like Gerald mentioning how he forgot until now about that comment Rafiel made to him regarding rolling with Chris. That was really funny and is a good insight into the manipulative mindset he had. Saying to him before they roll that lets just go through the moves no tapping each out in front of our students. Then he lies and tells Gerald that Chris said the same thing to him to cover himself. That may not have been black belt jiu jitsu but it was black belt manipulation lol.
That comment Joey had at the end was a great point. That how different it would be if all Rafiel had to do was invent some injury that would have prevented him from training and then he likely would not have been exposed like he was. And then may have even been involved in the game through today. That’s very interesting to think about.
I agree with Mike that this all has the makings for a really interesting documentary or movie some day.
I enjoyed it a lot
Posts like this are why you and places like this are awesome.
You’re a pro.
Yeah, you’ve lost, but those are big names. Legends if you will.
No shame in losing. It’s like striking out against Justin Verlander, Chris Sale, etc.
But you have a bigger connection with the fans and can give your perspective which is awesome.
