It’s been 5 years since he last fought. This is a young, hungry man’s game.
People also seem to be overlooking the amount of shit Conor pumped into his body in that time. 100% roided to the gills - at one point he was barely recognisable.
Then prior to that. The booze, the Coke… all this talk about him being some kind of elite sportsman is nonsense. He could have been great, but he’s become an Irish meme, and it’s all self inflicted.

Yep, like Cro Cop. Only took him like 5 years to figure the out after Gonzaga twisted Cro Cops knee. Once he started using his hands almost exclusively, he went on a huge win streak
I’ve never rooted for Connor but I think this was more about not cancelling the fight and not getting backlash for cancelling the fight. $30 million or whatever he got is definitely the icing on the cake with a scoop of ice cream on the side. But I think he would’ve crawled to the cage if he had to

Two things come to mind for me
1 - He couldn’t find the motivation and killer instinct after 5 years out, broken leg, lawsuits and coke. He opened with the kick to sort of amp himself up mentally and make him feel like he’s in a fight.
2 - He didn’t wanna be in there, and knew his knee was fucked, and knew if he threw that kick he would eventually land wrong and the fight would be over
Personally I go with the first option, I don’t think he had the intensity he needed to be in a fight, and he threw the kick to try to pull himself in mentally.
I would hate if the second option were true, but it’s certainly possible.
