Official UFC Fight Night: Rosas Jr. v. Barcelos Thread

Yup.

Hopefully they are just waiting to have a definitive answer before releasing a statement

Lol you’re definitely on Reddit too much

There doesn’t need to be a vigil but damn let’s act like civilized people. The guy was stretchered out unconscious. It’s not being soft, it’s just being respectful.

What do you think they should have done? It was the last fight of the night and no one had any clue as to how bad he was injured

Again, that’s the point being made. It’s not just a precaution. It’s clear that something requires a different level of attention than just telemetry which is a monitoring by machines and recovering.

We don’t know what that is and I am not in the habit of speculation. But staying in ICU is serious, even if you are stable.

But what do I know. It’s just what I do for a living.

I know he’s still in ICU but it’s good to see him talking and lucid.

There was recently a forum member that took a few days break from the ā€œinternetā€

No heads up was provided so several of us wondered where this OGer was.

This reminds me of that situation !

You know who you are !

He should never be booked for a fight again.

Given the way he collapsed C-Spine would have been appropriate too.

Does he give any mention on what happened?

I guess if medical personal stuff it’s none of our business but it sure would help to look fit in the future.

I’m going with his weight cut fucked him up and he’s lucky to be alive.

The way men and women cut weight in mma I’m surprised we haven’t seen more serious stuff in the big orgs. I know there have been a few deaths due to weight cuts in smaller orgs. Just wild we haven’t seen it at the higher levels yet with the way they cut.

JMHO
Watch his breathing at the breaks between 3/4 and 4/5.
He hyperventilated and it cause a cardiac response that made him lose consciousness.

I never said it wasn’t serious
I said that maybe he’s not unstable
Maybe he didn’t have a heart attack or a stroke.
Maybe it was something else.

Definites being thrown around, appeals to authority being thrown around.

99% of brain aneurysms are caused by anatomy and spontaneous wear/tear situations. Less than 1% are caused by trauma. Even if this was the one time that it happened, it’s considered an outlier and not the norm. The UFC doesn’t have to worry about this.

He had 5 rounds of spontaneous wear/tear

Not the same thing. I understand your logic, but it’s not that way with aneurysms. It’s possible, but highly unlikely that the root cause was the trauma.

What I could see is that he already had an underlying anatomical abnormality or weakened area, and then a blow may have been the event that finally caused it to rupture. Most people don’t know they have an aneurysm or vascular malformation until it bleeds or is found incidentally.

So it’s more likely that the underlying issue was already present before the trauma. And even that is a pretty big ā€œif,ā€ because we don’t actually know whether an aneurysm or vascular malformation was the reported issue in the first place.

It’s highly unlikely all together and had never happened before. Telling me the imaginary cause is highly unlikely is likely to not convince me that we know more than nothing

Everyone watching had the option to change the channel if they found themselves upset at what they were watching.
