There shouldn’t be different names period. I’ve been on a decent amount of other forums, including major ones like Reddit to tiny sites like one dedicated to a car that came out in the 90’s, no other forum blocks users from things like posting pictures or subforums and has ranked members.
This was a major problem with Kirik’s OG. We have a fresh slate, let’s be better.

i think it makes more sense in this case. they’re rewards for donating to make the site happen.
it’s either this, a relatively small number of user donating with no advantage other than philanthropy, or everyone having to pay some amount. i think a few extra features for people who contribute so more casual members don’t have to is the best trade-off.
just my opinion and there may well be a different solution i’m not thinking of.

I was thinking they could do what most forums do - the occasional sponsorship or ad to pay for things. Once they get things going smoothly, I think they’ll be able to get a decent amount of traffic (more than the old forum in recent years). I’d gladly give free marketing consulting if they needed it to get more people here.
The problem with limiting the forum is it’s a hard sell to get new users. People currently using reddit or no MMA forum aren’t going to pay a subscription for a product they are unfamiliar with.

Underground fell apart after advertising was launched IMO. that’s how I remember it, it’s real to me. Mofoa were always complaining about the cost of blue, one thing led to another and now Alta has raw dawgged evrybody without even spitting on that thang

Lots of sites have different user classes you level up through based on your contributions to the site that give you more privileges. Private trackers come to mind.

I think blocking a core area of our forum behind a paywall will be the death of it.
Subscribe to show support, pay to unlock additional features, buy merch, etc. Paying to be able to talk MMA on a message board birthed of another MMA message board will lead to people going elsewhere and eventually staying there.
Come for the MMA, stay for the banter.
That’s how users will flow in. Otherwise drop the MMA connection altogether.
