Haha yeah, I did not take that incident (or that series) very well. Didn’t help that Tim Donaghy admitted to outright fixing one of the games, Stern’s “letter of the law” and all the other shit. Of course no one forced Amare & fat French faggot Boris Diaw’s dumb asses to “leave the bench area” especially when Raja Bell had the situation well in hand. 2007 was definitely the Suns best shot at a title in that era.
Paradoxically as much as I loved those Suns teams, they were essentially the prototype for a lot of what I came to hate about the modern NBA (hoisting endless 3s, no defense/not allowed to play defense, etc). And those years were wasted having that goblin cunt Robert Sarver as owner.
I stuck with them though, through all the shit years between 2010-2021. Watched a lot of really terrible basketball, even though I was far from Arizona. After the way the finals went that year (up 2-0 and manage to get swept in the next four) I finally tapped out on them & the NBA in general. A part of that was the stupid fucking bandwagon Suns fans that latched on in the playoffs and especially the finals. That “Suns in 4” shit really pissed me off, no one who has suffered the misery of being a longtime fan of that cursed team could possibly utter such hubris.
It also just wasn’t the same. I remember talking to my father & some close friends who were there for the Nash years that it didn’t feel like I thought it would to see the Suns in the Finals after such a long drought of not even making the playoffs. More than anything I was annoyed as fuck watching Deandre Ayton, with all of his physical gifts and athleticism, be such a soft pussy on the court. If he had just a qtr of prime Amare’s aggression he would’ve been a 25 15 player for years. But you get what you deserve when you pass up a sure thing like Luka Doncic with the #1 pick.
Funny, this is literally the most I’ve said or thought about NBA basketball since August 2021. Thinking about those old days on the NBA ground brought some dormant stuff out. That really was an awesome mix of characters we had there back in the day.
