Man, this was 28 years ago. He was an absolute gentleman, limited english.

It was under the Shotokan karate banner, but it was really all Japanese ju jitsu.

It was a small gym, but he always had some absolute stud Japanese guys who worked in the area as chefs. They would murder us locals. They did pretty well at all of the local Chciago mma shows in the late 90s.

He was fond of subbing people by just holding in kesa gatame and when he got bored he would just stick his thumb into your adams apple.

Yeah he was obviously a talented grappler. Interesting he went with the Shotokan banner. Grappling seems like it was his bread and butter, but it was also the time.

I bet that thumb in the adams apple felt good! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: Sounds like a really solid gym with a revolving door of tough Japanese talent.
