Well the thing is that we’re charged monthly for the site, so I want the subs to be on the same schedule, so that we’re always 100% sure we’re in good standing and don’t have to face any surprises down the line.
I’m not trying to “game theory” any OGers or rake in a bunch of money up-front. I’m way more concerned with the longevity of the site, and a subscription service is much more stable in the long term.
We’ll be building out the bonus features so that it’s absolutely worth holding onto your sub over the years, and I think cautious users will realize over time that there’s nothing nefarious or predatory about the subscriptions. Cancel anytime you want with no penalty.
I understand what you’re saying but in practice it doesn’t make sense. If you lose subs you’ll still have to scramble for money regardless of if they were one-time or monthly. At least with monthly you can build a padding to weather any storms. Look at the difference a week made at AltaGround.
