Outdoor Boys (Youtuber) is retiring

It has to be a tremendous grind to keep content flowing. Filming damn near everything you do then editing and curating it.

I was surprised he’d encourage the kids to follow suit.

I use a gopro fishing and all i do is extract a couple of 1-2min clips and it’s a chore. I can only imagine how much work it would be to pump out that kind or content

This.

For years I’ve had people telling me to do a youtube channel.

I looked into it. Forgetting the startup cost for expensive camera, lighting and sound equipment… the whole idea is daunting.

The stress it would cause seems like it’d outweigh any benefit.

The market is already saturated with people who know what they’re doing with the tech/video stuff.

We’re at that point in social media evolution where some of the most successful and well known creators are retiring. With the amount of money they’ve made so quickly they can do it a bit earlier than we maybe expected, but I’m still happy to see guys like this and Matt at Demolition Ranch get to enjoy the fruits of their labor. Cleetus McFarland just made a similar vid yesterday where he said he’s going to back off and make some time for his family too. Good for them, imo.

Almost anything is a better end than Paul Harrel’s sign off:

Wife and I watched him pretty consistently over the last few years. People are saying his wife is making him quit and all that kinda crap, but if you watched him over the last few months, you’ll notice he complained about being in pain all the time, tired, camping with pneumonia.

The guy is all sinew. He needs a break. He has 14mil subs so he ain’t hurting for money. He also said he’s going to help his son with his channel.

You don’t need any of that shit. A lot of youtbers are successful with just a decent cell phone camera. The real issue is keeping content fresh, and editing. That’s the hardest part.

Generational money if they’re smart about it.

That is beautiful. You’re a lucky man.

I think Whistlindiesel said he uses Iphones for EVERYTHING. I also remember him using a pile of old brake rotors for a tripod back when he was welding massive wheel spacers together and now he’s trashing Ferraris and Bugattis. lol

I really hate to hear this. The Outdoor Boys were a channel of positivity in this world of filth. I loved The Outdoor Boys videos. His goodbye video was dusty. What a pretty song.

Is he though?

In that video where he is supposedly freezing in Alaska and miraculously finds a shed he isn’t wearing any gloves.

Who the fuck goes hiking in extreme temperatures and either doesn’t wear gloves or takes them off?

Also, I hope he doesn’t have an illness or anything

He lost a lot of weight in the past couple of years
I don’t think a guy like him would take Ozempic or anything

His wife bore him 3 healthy boys. And is a great mother and wife. Luke did good.

Ummm, maybe a guy turning on / off cameras and equipment for his YouTube channel :man_shrugging:t2:

Pretty obvious by the countless other survival / adventure videos that he is not faking it out there.

Will also add as evidence to his character and if his is genuine or not….. the dude wears Value Villiage spec gear where he easily could make BANK with a sponsor (and sponsors in general), and drives around in a beat up Kia mom car SUV where every other similar channel would be driving a crazy outfitted apocalypse vehicle.

Full disclosure: I know Luke. We were both interns at an Engineering Firm where his Dad was the President. Luke would come back to AK to work from BYU Law school in the summers. He hasn’t changed a bit, and that’s a good thing. Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.

Good, you should go to Alaska and try taking your gloves off. Please report back.

Lol, am a lifelong Alaskan and avid outdoorsman. I take my gloves off all the time depending on what I’m doing, or leave them in my pack frequently.

Again, it’s easy to spot the fakes out there. But if Luke’s catalog of thousands of videos is not evidence enough for you, and you are fixating on one instance where his gloves weren’t visible……. yeah, cool story bro.

New video today! Under the oldest sons channel. Luke was there too, but playing the hilarious sidekick. Tremendously boring video and i loved it.

I live in Alaska while his stuff is entertaining and I am sure its alot Of work he is hardly roughing it almost all the places he goes are right off the road near towns. the one where he was biking into a lake to camp and fish and claiming its like 6 miles in is really amile off the road me and my son go to That exact spot frequently and so do hundreds of others. But I try to turn off my skeptisism and just pretend not to know anything about the areas and enjoy his content,
