Paul vs Tyson brought in 1.43 million new subscribers but that’s Mike Tyson and a guy whose name was all over the place. I don’t pay much attention so maybe Rouseys name value is still really high but to most people Carano is a c or d level actress and I doubt most people even knew she fought, or cared that she did.
We’ll see I guess, I wouldn’t be surprised if I’m wrong. Im constantly surprised about the stupid celebrity stuff people pay for.
Carano became popular among the Disney/Star Wars crowd and then shifted to additional demographics with her controversial firing and Elon Musk paying for her legal case. She had both strong supporters and strong haters after that bullshit.
I don’t know what numbers would be considered a success, and I don’t know what the event will draw, but I see the rationale.
I’m more interested in this than the actual fight. My comments have been more in the context of the type of money that Rousey is implying she deserves.
I doubt they’ll lose money on this but who knows when we don’t know what the salaries are.
Problem is that they are 2 fighters both out of their prime with a small fanbase. Rousey pissed off UFC fans with the way she reacted to her 2 losses and then pissed off WWE fans with the way she reacted to fans turning on her. I seem to remember an interview where she shat on the fans and then quit (or whatever the order was).
As for Carano the Disney fans I don’t really think they would care if she would beat Rousey or not. Put her in the cage with Pedro Pascal and maybe then they would tune in.
I don’t think they want to see her get beaten though. UFC fans saw it twice already. Whereas with the WWE fans I think they would be apathetic to her now. I believe the term is “go away heat”.
“Her and I have been talking about this since last year,” White said about Rousey at the post-fight press conference. “It just didn’t work out. But I’m happy for her.
“Listen, me and Gina are in a really good place, we weren’t at one point. I’m happy for both of them.”
After initially stating that she didn’t strike a deal to return to the UFC, Rousey later claimed it really came down to the financial terms that she was being offered for the fight.
Talks dated back to 2025 before the UFC reached a deal to move from ESPN to Paramount, which included the elimination of the pay-per-view model for the company.
“It no longer made sense for me to go over there because they didn’t want to pay us the money we deserve,” Rousey said. “Because then from the rest of the time the deal, they’re going to have to pay everybody else more. So then I decided to look elsewhere.”
Elsewhere ended up with Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions, who are now leading the charge for the show as Netflix plans to air an MMA card for the first time in history.
Prior to this fight, Netflix actually pursued a broadcast deal with the UFC but the streaming service was only interested in the bigger, marquee pay-per-view cards and not the rest of the Fight Night lineup. In the end, the UFC inked a $7.7 billion deal over seven years to move to Paramount instead.
Going off of her exits of both UFC and WWE which both left bitter feelings within fans of both organizations. Maybe I’m wrong, but don’t think I am.
Edited to add both UFC and Paramount must think the same thing no? If they thought that Rousey still has a huge fanbase willing to dish out the cash and purchase Paramount subscriptions they would have given her a huge payday, no?
