Is it as big of an issue as it’s made out to be, or is this more often thrown about by someone who is trying to reverse gaslight? Because I am so fucking tired of every bitch in the world wide web and real life throwing this term out there. I don’t remember hearing it this frequently 10 or so years ago.

The term “gaslighting” has been around forever, but it wasn’t really a mainstream term until the last few years.
What it refers to, on the other had, is as old as the invention of lying.
It is a technique used frequently in propaganda campaigns.

Humans have started to use the term even in circumstances that are merely a difference in opinion. Grossly overused term, that when actually used correctly is genuinely a helpful term to have.

It’s a made up phrase. Remember several mental health professionals back in the day politely said, “that term is not in the DSM IV”. Which was polite double speak for fuck off with that woke shit.
Modern American Women love throwing around terms they have little to no understanding of to justify their lack of accountability. See also: narcissist and any form of abuse.

It’s one of those words that’s been around forever but due to constant misuse/overuse it’s taken a whole different meaning. Almost like “racism” or “racist” has.
It is not in the DSM because it is not a diagnosis. That does not mean it’s not an actual technique people use to influence beliefs.

The DSM is a diagnostic manual. Gaslighting isn’t a diagnosis, it’s an abuse tactic, or set of tactics to manipulate someone by making them doubt their reality.
It’s definitely being overused a lot.
