There isn’t a direct equivalent for BJJ. The Pan Americans would probably be the best comparison by scale and importance as far as BJJ is concerned but you still have to qualify.
ADCC trials and opens would be the other comparison but they aren’t equivalent the way it is set up.
That was an interesting event - it was very fun listening to Gable and Peretti calling matches .. Gable had such an amazing eye for grappling - it would have been interesting to see how he would have done had he been younger and committed to mma .. I see him as a lighter version of Couture
There wasn’t a weight class for somebody like that back then. Also outside of a select few elite wrestlers, none of them were interested in MMA since there was hardly any money in it. Most of the elite wrestlers who entered the MMA world back then were guys who were past their prime or who couldn’t beat whoever was in front of them.
Arman won’t be taking a match 2 weeks before the White House card. He’s the replacement for both the main event and Chandler/Ruffy.

Georgio isn’t a world beater but he’s a decent wrestler. Comparing him to the top level guys isn’t fair. He’s floating around the area of being a National Qualifier for the NCAAs which he probably would’ve been if he stayed in college.
a one time qualifier would have been the absolute ceiling for him…
i could see a universe where that might have happened…
