Rickson vs Anjo (no video - few pics)

Only a handful of people were there or have seen the video, but on the latest Dark Side of the Cage on Vice TV about Pride, they interview Rickson and others about that fight. I’ve never seen color photos of it before. One new detail I heard from the interview was when Rickson had rear mount on Anjo, he stuck his 2 fingers in his nose, pulled his face up and to get access to his neck (fishooking his nose) and sunk in the final choke. They didn’t show any clips of the fight, and Rickson said he might release it some day, but it was “Rated R” and too violent and laughed.

A few of the color pictures from the show. Maybe some day the fight will be released for us to see it.

I watched this last night too, great doc and looking forward to the 2nd episode.

This fight is like the holy grail of unseen tapes, won’t be seen.

You have to conclude something happened there that Rickson doesn’t want to be seen. I won’t speculate as to what it was.

What was the point of filming it then

He shot and kept the video because he wanted proof of the results. Also why he first broke his nose before choking him out to show physically he beat him up. Also Anji said he was jumped by Rickson’s team when he went in. Rickson showed the tape to the Japanese media to show Anjo was lying. The Japanese media guy on the show that mentioned the fishooking actually saw the tape.

Hasn’t enough time passed?

Why not just release the thing…

The combined record of all Ricksons opponents is 74-63, and he fought a 2-7 AND a 2-6 guy twice.

Without Funaki and his questionable record, the opponents total records are 35-50.

Who cares

Meaningless. It was a totally different time and unless you were training at the time you simply can’t understand Rickson and how important this kind of stuff was.

He was a can crusher

No one even fought at the time, it was a complete unknown as to what you were getting into. It’s just hard to understand if you didn’t get into mma or jiu jitsu until after the early 2000’s. I had 3 amateur mma fights in 1999 and I knew absolutely nothing about my opponents before the fight. I had no idea if the guy was a total pussy or if I was about to get killed. Even worse, I really had no idea if I was a pussy or a killer lol. Just a different world.

records didnt mean the same thing back then as they do now
nobody (except rickson lol), really kept track of records or held them in the same esteem as today’s modern sport mma

To ensure should the Japanese try some shit he has full proof that shows otherwise!

The way the Gracie’s talk, they were doing this shit since the beginning of time so they knew what to expect, hence the handpicking easy opponents.

Rickson fought the same can at Pride 4 that he did at Pride 1. Kerr, Ruas, Sakuraba and Vovchanchin were on that card and Rickson fought Takada, again.

Yep! I started in ‘99 and man it was great and everyone was super tight but now it’s just another TKD situation all over again.

Ok, I don’t think anyone gives a shit what you think. How long have you been fighting?

Sometimes you can discuss things and other times you turn into this.if you didn’t give a shit you wouldn’t respond.

Sometimes people think they can discuss things that they have no idea about. I’m not going to come on here and argue with a war veteran about his experience in said war when I was never in the military.
