And he out-wrestled him in those fights too. No need for some sideshow bullshit.
Former UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones is already talking about hip replacement surgery, so Iām not sure āBonesā was the best choice to cover Dwight Howard, the 6ā10ā NBA All Star nicknamed āSupermanā for his athletic prowess.
Not surprisingly, Jones got tied up like a pair of Chuck Taylors and left in the dust once Howard turned on the jets.
All Gane had to do was move around!
Jon Jones is seemingly coming to terms with the reality he might not fight at UFC White House, or ever again, for that matter.
Former UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight champion Jones (28-1 MMA, 22-1 UFC) has been battling with the idea of hanging up the gloves for well over a year, since he TKOād Stipe Miocic to defend the heavyweight belt at UFC 309 in November 2024.
After a title unification bout with Tom Aspinall failed to materialize over the summer, Jones vacated the strap and announced his retirement from MMA competition. Just days later, however, āBonesā teased a comeback when the June 14 mega-event at the White House in Washington started to turn from an idea into something that will actually happen.
Jones has been stumping hard for a spot on the card, and has been collectively angling for a showdown with Alex Pereira inside the octagon. UFC CEO Dana White has adamantly rejected the idea, however, noting that Jonesā track record makes him impossible to trust for such a significant event.
Although Jones is still training and feels capable of winning at the highest level, he is now 38 and has other ventures such as coaching top prospect Gable Steveson, promoting his Dirty Boxing organization and more to fulfill his time and give him happiness. As he gets further adjusted to those new priorities, Jones admits the stakes of fighting in the UFC become less desirable as he thinks about his overall future.
āI think I could be done,ā Jones told Helen Yee. "Iām young enough to compete with some of the best fighters in the world. I am healthy enough to compete with some of the best fighters in the world, but Iāve always been used to competing with the best in the world. I donāt know. Itās a really high standard to uphold. Maybe itās just about doing it right and getting out at a really good time.
āI donāt want to be one of these fighters that wins some and loses some, canāt remember what your name is. I met a fighter a few years ago, he didnāt know what his birthday way. Thatās a lot of fighting. Iām far from that, and I donāt want to know what that looks like.ā
Jones has competed just twice in the past six years. He controversially defended the 205-pound belt against Dominick Reyes on Feb. 8, 2020, then took a more than three-year hiatus before moving up to heavyweight to submit Ciryl Gane for the vacant belt. It took him 20 months to get back and defend against Miocic, and heās now been on the shelf for nearly 15 months since then.
For Jones, focusing on his personal growth is a priority over fighting, and unless something changes and heās offered a chance to fight at the White House, he is content.
āJust a happy guy, thatās it,ā Jones said. āExpect Jon Jones to continue to grow as a human being. Expect by best. The way I try to impact others and impact these younger fighters. I think my best self is on its way. Thatās a person without fighting, and Iām excited to meet this guy. To forge this guy.ā
So hes retiring from mma to avoid Tom?
good. hopefully he disappearsā¦or gets arrested again. which will probably happen given his history
Jon will live in DCās head, rent free for the rest of his life.
Ankles snatched? What does that even mean
Me eitherā¦he should stay retired and do a lot of water training to hold off on that hip replacement. The longer he waits the less likely heāll need to replace it again in lifetime.
Dude did his thingā¦doled out enough eye pokes and wins to definitely get into the hall of fame ![]()
I have an arthritic hip, same side. hope thatās where the similarities end.
it FUCKS your hip mobility.
and, as each of us is aware:
itās all in the hips!
itās all in the hips!
altogether now, ITāS ALL IN THE HIPS!
Jones couldnāt even beat Dominic Reyes
