The Colors of the Flag

RED, which stands for the bloodshed for our freedom

WHITE, which is for the White Man that this country was built for

When the flag was officially adopted in 1777, the colors of red, white, and blue were not given an official meaning. However, when Charles Thomson, Secretary of the Continental Congress, presented a proposed U.S. seal in 1782, he explained its center section in this way:

The colours of the pales are those used in the flag of the United States of America; White signifies purity and innocence, Red, hardiness & valor, and Blue, the colour of the Chief signifies vigilance, perseverance & justice.[93]

Red, white, and blue were among the most common and accessible flag-making dyes and fabrics in the 18th century, simplifying production.

I was on an NCO promotion board in the 82nd Airborne, where we were asking the usual questions you are expected to know as a non-commissioned officer in the United States Army - technical questions like the effective range of various weapons, what various regulations concern, and drill and ceremony - how to properly display the flag, etc. We had a young Spec-4 who was flailing and unprepared, named Fluke. At one point, he was asked what the colors of the American Flag symbolized. There actually is an answer (red represents valor and bravery, white symbolizes purity and innocence, and blue signifies vigilance, perseverance, and justice, The 13 stripes on the flag represent the original 13 colonies, and the 50 stars symbolize the 50 states of the Union.) but Fluke didn’t know and tried freestyling. “Uhh, red represents the blood shed for our country, and um, blue means the beautiful skies over our country, (board members begin frowning and making notes on their evaluation forms) and white represents, uh, racial purity…”

I was the only white NCO on the board. It didn’t go well for Fluke.
