THE SMASHING MACHINE: Emily Blunt Rock Johnson

Bader has the charisma of a dollar store tooth brush.

Only queers and UFC dweebs dislike this movie

I remember having to go rent the tapes at the video store for the first couple of UFC’s

Started watching MMA with UFC 1 , after UFC 6 or 7 teenage life got busy so comnpletely stopped watching until GSP VS Penn 2

To be fair, I would have been too busy or partying way too hard to watch Pride events, the night was made for partying back then. Plus from what I read for the most part this Kerr character was unremarkable, just a weight bully basically

this is a A24 film

meaning its a well made, well acted drama with MMA storyline

Not an MMA movie

It should be like most A24 productions, amazing

Plus Emily Blunt is hot af

A24 had some woke slop as well. The issue is the boring story that’s been told better in the doc IMO.

im never watching a documentary

just liek im never reading a Stephen King book

movies are the best and A24 will deliver

I won’t watch a documentary, I’ll watch a worse recreation of a documentary. Neat

That’s what I figured.. does the movie tell us anything that the docu didn’t cover?

I’ve never enjoyed mma movies for some reason - the fight scenes are usually awful and hard to watch

The only thing it has that the doc doesn’t is multiple scenes of Mark and Dawn arguing. Other than that, they just reworked stuff from the doc.

And they had Coleman as the one visiting him in the hospital instead of his old wrestling teammates.

Oh damn what a bummer .. I’m just trying to picture the average person that doesn’t watch mma and has no clue who Kerr is - why would they watch this movie? The addiction storyline I guess might draw them in but we’ve seen that endless times ..

watched the old one again last week
watching the new one now

a whole lot of the lines in the movie are straight out of the documentary
this is one reason not to watch the documentary first

i already knew kerrs story, as do most of u
was hoping the film could make me care about his character more
it was not as good as the documentary

I was hoping the film would reveal more of his early life not included in the doc. Nope.

Don’t forget about Bas getting the opioid injection by Kerr So did Kerr start Bas drug habit or did Bas start Kerr’s.

Took the family to see it. We had a good time

Bas tells the story like Kerr only injected him once. He didn’t like how it felt and didn’t see how Kerr could fight like that.

Anyone know where I can find the original streaming? I think I have it on vhs in my crawl space maybe but I don’t even own a vcr anymore. Haven’t watched it in years. Found a very bad version on daily motion. Meh pass

Her best part was getting shot in Sicario a decade ago.

Just got back from the theater and I enjoyed it. I was going to type out a long review but after going through this thread I think you and buddie summed it up well. Some little things like the Fujita casting took me out a bit too but there was so much that they recreated that looked more faithful than we usually see with biopics that I gave more passes than some of the people in thread did it seems. You aren’t going to get 100% accuracy but it felt like they got close enough.

Really liked seeing Usyk play Igor and I did mark out (no pun intended) when the old blond lady that was always in Igor’s corner stood up at the press conference and asked the soccer kick question lol. I also thought Bader did better than expected and his part was a lot bigger than I thought it would be but I would’ve cut it down some and maybe edit the movie down by 15-20 minutes.

It could’ve benefitted from a better score especially for the addiction and fight scenes. How did they not blast the PRIDE Theme!!? That alone would’ve raised the soundtrack up a few notches. Overall even with its flaws I’d give it a thumbs up.

Just watched it.. thought it was really good. I’ll take a movie with great acting over a slow paced documentary anytime. I do enjoy the rawness of documentaries.. but the movie showed more things we didn’t get to see in the documentary as well.

I was hoping since it’s been many years now that the documentary is out.. I was hoping to see more of the backstage drama with Pride and Kerr etc. also maybe the rematch between Kerr and Igor. My only complaints.

Plus the movie is goated imo because they added Coleman’s rope celebration lmao

Also I thought the score was fine… playing little Suzie’s ā€œtake me in your armsā€, when he was shooting up was perfect imo.

Take me, take me in your arms
And don’t you let me go
I need you more and more
(I need you more and more)
