Weird gun for that to happen to.

A buddy of mine had one when I was in highschool. I put a lot of rounds through it target shooting and squirrel hunting. Seemed like a quality piece.

the only thing I can think of is the ammo was double charged at the factory

No eye protection, no ear protection.

Dude was asking for something bad to happen.

Serious question: would this happen with handguns as well?

We don’t know what happened, but its certainly possible. It just depends on the problem and the individual gun. I think what most likely happened was the previous shot was a squib load that got stuck in the barrel. When the next round is shot, the pressure takes the path of least resistance. In that case it was back through the receiver.

Definitely possible/probable.

22lr is a very dirty round, so if the rifle and magazines had gone for a long time without cleaning a lot of gunk could have built up.

this is either 17 hornet or 17 wsm

he shows the case and the casehead blew out
