Toolbox Ad - legit?

I’ve been browsing recently for an additional tool box to add to my collection. I’ve already got two of the standard “craftsman” sizes, and one is a cheap piece of shit I got for free that is too flimsy to hold anything heavy in the bigger drawers. I’ve also acquired more items that are just kind of loosely organized on shelves. Plus I want an actual nice, large size box, hey fuck off.

Anyway, I was browsing the other day and ran across this (I’ll spare the guy possible harassment by not adding the link):

It’s in a good conditions
I don’t have space in our new Home
And don’t wanna keep it outside
Only detail it gots it’s a lil dent in the back you can see it in the picture
Asking 1300$

That is, apparently a legit Matco 72" box, with hutch top - for $1300? Shouldn’t that be worth $4000 or more?

There’s more than one pic, but it’d be redundant. Other pics showed the model and serial numbers.

I mean, I think the box is legit but it must be stolen, or I’m going to get robbed when I to buy it?

It’s much more than I need but at that price, would I be stupid not to?

That’s a steal. Did the guy give a reason why he’s getting rid of it? Do the pictures look like he’s in a shop or anything?

I have not contacted him yet.

It looks like it’s in a storage unit - less than 2 miles from my house as it turns out.

The ad says he moved and has no room for it.

Yes that’s an expensive tool box. Bottom box was around 4500 new. Top was probably close to the same. Maybe not fake a worth the look.
I have Mac tool box so I can vouch for the price.

Appears to be at a commercial establishment. If it’s close by, and you really need it, you’d be a fool to not go and have a look at it. Carry your pistol.

This could be a possibility cause they are large and very heavy. But he should know its worth more than that.

Close to half a ton according to the user manuals.

If he’s showing the serial number it is likely not stolen. Go get it. If it feels off but you’re still a little nervous about it, save the pictures of the ad so you have clean hands if anything comes of it.

This. If you do buy you’ll need a trailer with a ramp. If you trying to put in the back of a truck you’ll need a forklift, or several dudes to help.

I am making contact. We’ll see what happens.

I’d say avenge me if I do wind up getting robbed and murdered, but you guys are useless.

I’d probably just go rent a U-Haul box truck with ramp for an hour to get it done. Would be worth it.

I’m willing to give him a stern talking-to if he kills you, but nothing beyond that.

Don’t sleep on Harbor Freight tool chests if you want to save money.

But this is cheaper than Harbor Freight even.

Yea, ideally I want a 72" wide style with workbench top.

The cheapest one of any kind I can find used is $900. New they’re at least $1400 for Home Depot or HF mid-tier brand.

I bought two of these shelves but only used 1.5. If you get that box truck and want the half a shelf I’ve got you can have it.

Much appresh - but my entire garage has shelving everywhere built onto the walls already. Too many in fact. They start at 4 feet off the ground, which is in the way for what I have planned.

Well then. Free to any other Vegas dudes. It’s just in my way now.

I’ll gladly write a strongly worded letter if you want to deliver it whilst administering said stern talking to.
