I guess some people just enjoy seeing others fail. It is indeed dumb and a big risk money wise, bu isn’t it what us FANS would want? Going all out for glory instead of $$$?
Volk risked it all and well, lost it all. A least he could reclaim the belt though. Before that he went from #1 P4P to an afterthought! I get why some fightrrs take little risks with how fans react.
As for this bout, it doesn’t stir me up like Ilia vs Islam would have. Not even close. And hard to root against any of these two in my case. I’ll likely root for Topuria just because the future becomes more interesting and Charles had the belt already.
Volk was, and is, a universally beloved fighter, who had gone from knocking on the door of a title shot, to dominating all challengers for a long time. But people didn’t love him because he was or is the champ, or because of his skills (although that helps a bit). They love him because he is a shining example of what it means to be a martial artist - he shows us humility, charisma, courage, and has now become a symbol of redemption. All he lost when Islam beat him was that unbeatable aura he had throughout his championship run.
Ilia hasn’t been around long enough for a lot of people to love him in that way, and even at 145, hadn’t been there long enough for people to get to know him as a champion and face of the organization. Although now his skills are at that level having knocked out Max and Volk - people will see him as less deserving. So if Ilia loses, even to Oliveira, he will be looked at like he doesn’t belong there. I know it’s stupid, but that’s what dumbasses will think
Jack Hermansson is happy to fight Gregory Rodrigues
“Quite familiar, obviously having that Cannonier fight pretty fresh in my mind. The first thing I’m thinking about is a big, strong dude, solid grappling experience, and a hard puncher,” Hermansson said. “I’m quite familiar with his style and who he is… I didn’t expect any in the rankings, but I had hoped for it.
“My last fight, which was canceled, was with Brendan Allen, so I was hoping for that fight,” Hermansson added. “I got another (fight offer), but I can’t remember who he was, and that’s not a good thing. I got another offer from somebody I barely knew, and I asked them for someone more people would recognize, and they came up with Gregory. I’m quite happy with it.”
Hermansson says he is happy because Rodrigues has a name, and he knows a win would put him back in the picture at middleweight. But, more so, Hermansson is confident that he matches up well and can get a statement win.
“I think I match up well. I think I’m going to be the quicker fighter and keep a high pace. Just wear him down and look for the finish,” Hermansson said.
Like everyone else I thought Topuria was an obvious favorite, but I believe the general public is retarded, and when I see this many people saying it’s an obvious and easy KO win, I have to trust my gut and assume the retards are wrong.
