Dana White: Jorge Masvidal and Tyron Woodley ā€˜probably not’ returning to UFC

Given the weak state of some UFC pay-per-views (PPV) events these days, you’d think the promotion would be happy to have a few more recognizable name fighters who could pad up the mid-card on some upcoming events.

That’s not the case, though, at least not when it comes to Jorge Masvidal or Tyron Woodley.

Both men have been talking to media recently about a UFC return. Masvidal suggested a December or February match against Leon Edwards, while Woodley says his MMA break is over after two losses to Jake Paul and getting jerked around by a bunch of big talkers.

But, is UFC interested in their face-punching services?
ā€œProbably not,ā€ UFC CEO, Dana White, said following the latest Contender Series event (full results here) when asked if we’d see Masvidal or Woodley back in the Octagon.

That is both surprising and unsurprising.

Masvidal is on a five-fight skid — four losses in a row in UFC, and a majority decision loss to Nate Diaz in boxing. That’s a lot of red on his record, which hasn’t featured a win since 2019.
At least ā€œGamebredā€ is a fan-favorite?

Woodley, meanwhile, is on a six-fight losing streak, but frustrated fans endlessly with his tentative fighting style at the end of his UFC tenure. Unlike Masvidal — who still has matches with UFC, but was given special permission to compete outside the promotion — Woodley fought out his UFC contract and is a free agent.
That gives Woodley a little more flexibility, not like there’s a wealth of options outside of UFC any more. As for Masvidal? Whatever happens with UFC, ā€œGamebredā€ continues to hustle. At the end of September he teased something big coming up.

ā€œI’m supposed to get big word, brother – big word, big news,ā€ he told MMA Junkie. ā€œI’ll tell you now: It’d be the biggest news of the year probably.ā€

Hmmm …

Former UFC champion announces plan to return to MMA after boxing frustration

Ex-welterweight champion Tyron Woodley suffered a meteoric fall from grace in the final stages of his UFC career, losing four fights in a row – two decisions and two stoppages.

It didn’t get much better in the boxing ring either as he dropped not one, but two results to divisive internet personality Jake Paul, which sadly included being knocked out cold in their 2021 rematch.

Paul has continued taking controversial boxing bouts and is set to face Mike Tyson next weekend at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas – an event that should have also included Woodley.

ā€œI was originally fighting on the card, [but] we couldn’t find a formidable opponent that made sense,ā€ Woodley told TMZ Sports over the weekend, teasing that after a frustrating few years dealing with boxing negotiations, he wants a return to the octagon in 2025.

ā€œYou know it’s funny because I never retired or left MMA, I just took a break… I was an athlete from the age of 10 to 40, I needed a break because my mind was just always in kill mode.ā€

After his 2021 rematch with ā€˜The Problem Child’, Woodley would step away from competition as he looked to enjoy some well-deserved downtime but upon his return, he was met with closed doors.

ā€œAnd then it was a whole year of cap where everybody – Floyd [Mayweather] wanted to fight, then he didn’t want to fight, then KSI wanted to fight, then Manny Pacquiao wanted to fight… Those are big fights so you can’t just evenly replace those fights.ā€

More like TWood announces that he’d like to return to mma if anyone will take him. I wish him luck
