UFC 309 Jon Bones Jones v. Stipe Miocic Thread

Stoppage was good. He was hurt but also defenseless for 9 minutes straight and would’ve gotten more of the same.

I don’t disagree with wobbly legs being evidence of a fight needed to be stopped. The problem is that the doctor wasn’t there to evaluate his overall condition, he was supposed to just check the cut. I don’t think it’s legal for a doctor to stop it based on his own opinion of the fighter being out of it. Especially in between rounds.

Stipe is gonna be out-wrestled for 5 rounds. Possibly subbed.

He was done. If it’s wrong for the doctor to stop it after evaluating him like that, than what is the point of the doc evaluating him? He was fucked.

Can you imagine how good Tybura good be if he actually got into shape?

Stipe isn’t making it out of the first.

Checked reddit. They like the stoppage. Reddit never saw a stoppage they didn’t like.

To evaluate the cuts… duh

Mixed feelings about that stoppage, yeah he was probly cooked but being concussed isn’t criteria for stopping a fight.

I then remembered this card is in NY and the doctors there have made some weird calls before.

It’s not the doctor’s job. Something like that needs to be stopped by the ref during the fight. Although I will say, legal or not, that doctor just saved him from taking a possibly career ending beating.

It’s not just about the cuts. It’s about the condition of the fighter.

Yeah pretty much.

That’s not his job… he needs to stay in his fucking lane

I don’t know either of the next two fighters very well.

So… I’m betting on black.

Sure it is. It’s the docs job to tell the ref if the fighter should be able to continue.

Nonsense

I can’t believe you actually had to type that out

People are dumb.

Well shit let’s just put the doctor in the ring and he can ref the fight…

It’s his job to check the cut and see if it warrants a stoppage. Same thing with an eye poke or groin shot. It’s not his job to go into the cage and assesses a fighter’s entire condition. That is 100 percent the ref’s job, during the action.
