UFC and Netflix Were Close to Agreeing to Broadcast Deal

Would have rather we got the UFC on Netflix, even if it was just the numbered cards. Its by far the biggest platform in terms of giving global exposure and being able to attract casuals who tune in just because they saw it advertised on the home page. Its great for boxing and it would have been even better for the UFC because it would have been semi-regular content.

Its understandable why the UFC would rather have a single broadcaster going all in on everything though rather than having to deal with the considerably less attractive Fight Night etc rights separately.

UFC made a smart move… Everyone that that has Walmart+ has paramount +.

And it’s @Non_N00B being a total asshole on this forum as usual.

”us MMA guys”? Really? I’ve been watching MMA since UFC 1. I was a longtime friend & training partner of Kevin Rosier & he called me up when he was first contacted about fighting in the tournament. So, don’t try to pull that “I’m an MMA guy” bullshit on me, man.
I’ve been training in martial arts & combat sports since I was 12.

What the fuck do you mean, “the UFC ISN’T for that? It’s a professional fight organization that needs to develop fighters, so they have talent that moves up to fill the bigger events. You really don’t know how the fight game works, do you? Smh.

Context is king.

UFC gave Paramount+ the US broadcast rights..

Not global rights.

Those are on 3 years cycles and 1/3 of the countries go up for renegotiation every year. So Paramount has 2.5 years to buy those if they want it.

Correct me if I am wrong @HongKongPhooey

I would think they watch the internet and the fucking hate Netflix gets from it’s core audience…

Smart.

Im still probably gunna stream them…

They should prove themselves in smaller/regional orgs and then enter the UFC challenge a name on a card full of other names. As things stand they build a resume in the UFC but have been on card no one watches so no one knows them.

I believe i included a source in the original ufc to paramount thread.

Too lazy to look

Despite the business success, some feel the UFC still has a superstar problem. It’s a notion that White strongly disagrees with, and he explained why during an appearance on the “IMPAULSIVE” podcast (via MMAJunkie).

“That narrative has been around since fcking – I was hearing this sht about Chuck Liddell leaving and Georges St-Pierre. ‘What are you going to do?’ People nonstop talk sht,” White said. “You just started this interview talking to me about a $7.7 billion dollar TV deal. I could go through the metrics of this business from top to bottom, and I just told you that (Power) Slap guys have made $10 million over the last two years, and the list goes on and on.*

“The problem is that literally nobody knows anything about this fcking business. They all have an opinion, but they don’t know jack sht. … The UFC just signed this deal. We’ve got Power Slap. We’ve got boxing. You’ve got three of the biggest fights in boxing history. I was a part of two of them, and I’ve only done two. There’s a formula to the stuff. So when I listen to sht like ‘we have a superstar problem’ or we have a this problem or a that problem, my response to that is: ‘Believe me when I fcking tell you, we have no problems.'”

The UFC’s next pay-per-view event is scheduled to take place on Oct. 4. The promotion will end the month of September without a PPV, but there will be two next month. Once the deal with Paramount begins in 2026, all numbered UFC events will air exclusively on the Paramount Plus streaming service.

You’re a typical aloof CNN Covid shot boomer with zero self awareness, so of course everybody seems like an asshole to somebody who comes across like they just discovered the internet a few years ago.

The UFC isn’t for absolute nobodies to just fill A card, it’s not a feeder show. Go back and look at old cards and look at today, Everything is a top heavy money grab. You don’t need 500+ generic fighters, and that’s why the cards suck. They used to build up on KOTC, ROTR etc

Spare me the “it’s all exciting”, Unless you’ve only watched a handful of fights, you know that’s not true. Also, anybody that lived through the golden age of MMA should be appalled at this overly corporate stale thing they have turned it into. There is a reason they had to get out of the PPV market and wasn’t because they are doing great, and I am far from the only one that has been saying this for a long time.

The whole point is there is always some Dumbass that comes in and goes on about how THE UNKNOWNS always put on the best show. Which is a blatant lie. Sometimes a star is born, sometimes the fight sucks And sometimes it’s a one move highlight that gets replayed. These fights don’t have the same build up and suspense and excitement

I’m sorry, but two broccoli Haired dorks having a glorified sparring match will never ever have the build up of a Fedor vs CroCop. So trying to pretend that everybody should Be enthralled by watching regional level scrubs POSSIBLY have a good fight is being contrarian for the sake of being contrarian, which is what he is doing.

Netflix is actually right here. Almost nobody wants all these watered down shows. Ufc obviously doesn’t care that they’re only going to get a quarter of the audience with paramount compared to what they would’ve got with netflix

Watered down shows. Almost no active super star fighters on the roster. UFC bjj. Slap Fight.

Congrats Paramout!

Just admit that you’re stuck in the past. You’d like to go back to the days of 8-10 events per year with old school fighters like Gracie, Shamrock & Tank Abbott. That was likely you’re introduction to the sport as a kid & you just can’t recapture that same sort of youthful excitement. You haven’t adapted & moved on with the times.
