I was under the impression that Prates was an early-twenties up and comer with maybe a dozen fights or so, a young prospect from the contender series.

I was surprised to learn he’s 31 and now has a record of 21-6. He’s now won 10 in a row, finishing his opponent in each of those bouts, the last 4 of which were in the UFC.

Give this guy his ranking, and give him the fight with #4 Jack Della Maddalena. And make it 5 rounds, as that seems to be the only thing missing from his resume as he’s established himself as a contender.

One of the most exciting guys to ever compete, for sure. That’s my guy.

Your original statement was right, they were hyping him up too much. But it’s not his fault, and it’s not just him. They do it for everyone who has a few knockouts early in their UFC career. But since he competed in Muay Thai it sort of elevates his profile. A win over Magny now isn’t the same as 5 years ago, but it still means something. I agree if he wants Jack, I think he should get that fight.

Has he been on the ground in any of those wins?

Idk. I had to do a deep dive on the guy because i realized i didn’t know much about him.

Perhaps it is telling that 3 of his 6 losses have been by submission.

Yeah I mean like most rising strikers he is relatively untested on the ground. He will run into a grappler, and those questions will have to be answered. I personally think his poise is his greatest asset.

Carlos Prates Fires Back At Naysayers Following UFC Vegas 100 Win

Carlos Prates spoke to reporters following UFC Vegas 100. The rising welterweight was asked about the discussion online regarding whether or not Neil Magny folded. It’s clear that Prates is none too pleased with that chatter (via MMAFighting).

ā€œI think they should come here and let me give a punch on his head,ā€ Prates said in his post-fight scrum. ā€œThen after they can talk.

ā€œYou know when I fought Li Jingliang? It was the same the first knockdown. I hit his head and then he goes down. I think Neil Magny was the same. I train a lot of boxing, many times. Maybe four times per week. Bro, my hand, when I punch you, no matter how or where, you’re going to get hurt.

ā€œOn the head is different on the face. On the face you get a little bit dizzy. But on the head you cut your legs and don’t feel nothing and then you come back. So I think people talking shit, they should come here and let me hit his head and then they’ll talk after.ā€

Bingo on the response
