Sure, Heat had better actors and was the superior film.

But the plots were

Each movie had a crew taking down scores.

Each movie had a relentless cop pursuing the crew.

Each movie had the cops use a girlfriend to try to get to the crew.

Each movie had an exceptionally evil character (Waingro and Fergie).

The main crew member killed the evil character in both movies.

Both movies had a major shootout between crew and cops.

Crew members got blown away in both shootouts.

One crew member escapes in both movies.

No, but I’ll throw some controversy into the mix. The Town is a better movie. Heat is very good, arguably the best shootout of all time, but it has some major pacing issues in my opinion

More seriously, Affleck’s character was a bit more sympathetic than Deniro’s, and Jeremy Renner’s character was an absolute hoot.

Affleck: “I need ya help. I can’t tell ya what it is and ya can never ask me about it, and we gonna hurt some people.”

Renner: (pause) “Whose cah we takin’?”

Waingro is actually the fallen hero of the movie. He was working with the police to catch the bad guys. If you watch the final shootout you will see those guys were 100% pure scum. Terrorizing the public and even taking a child hostage. Waingro is an angel in disguise.

I’m also really enjoyed Renners character. Same with in Hurt Locker. Hell of an actor imo.

Different movies in that in Heat it went more in depth with the cop character, iirc.

Also, while Kilmer lived and presumably got away with his crimes, I think that DeNiro was the main character amongst the criminals, and he was the one with the lover interest, and he died. Kilmer surviving was cool, but it was more like a silver lining. DeNiro was the main guy.

In The Town, the main criminal survives.
