People can take internet postings and thoughts over into their real lives and that can be troublesome.

Agreed. Why anyone thinks Iāve asked for censorship or banning is beyond me. I specifically asked for posters that say stupid shit all the time to be allowed to say it and for users to learn the ignore function.
But I also realize that will lead to a terrible user experience overall and no new members will show up. If the goal is for the current crew to isolate until we all die off thatās perfectly acceptable.
But when you tout free speech you have to deal with a bunch of shit too. Trolling and spamming are free speech. How do you justify which speech is actually free? Hard to say but the current moderation comes off as half-hearted in that itās both over moderation and under moderation.
Too many people think the rules here mirror the rules of the old site. How does one clearly convey to the community what their expected behavior is when the posted rules are selectively enforced and āinherent rulesā have been applied at the discretion of the mods.
In my opinion, the reason these threads keep happening even though weāre collectively pretending there isnāt a problem, is because expectations are unclear.
All Iāve ever asked for is a clearly posted list of rules we can look to for guidance. How that is sowing division in the user base is beyond me.

Iām not dismissing your concerns here, but this perception is largely a result of you just not being privy to our mod chat. As I mentioned before, we actually TALK with other members about the rules when theyāve pushed too far, instead of just suspending people. Those conversations are private and we donāt announce that theyāve occurred, so it may seem like weāve done nothing.
Your quickness to assume the worst - that weāre ignoring these things or trying to gaslight members is what irks me, because I care very much about this place and I think weāre doing the OPPOSITE of that accusation - personally reaching out instead of taking impersonal mod action.
When we DO suspend/ban, weāre very open about that because they should serve as an example so that nobody else has to be suppressed.
If you have a suggestion for how the rules may be made clearer to all, Iād love to hear it, but I havenāt run into anyone that didnāt know the rules. Usually the problem posters are those who know exactly where the line is.

Anyone whoās done any moderating of social media groups wouldnāt wish the job on anyone else. I modded a FB group that grew from a few people to over 10,000 and around 2015 it got just unbearable. I ended up moderating it based on what I thought was right and wrong which didnāt jive with all the piss pants whiny faggots that seemed to spawn out of absolutely nowhere that year. I said fuck it and let someone else have the job and deleted my account there.
The best you could ever do is making like 60-70% happy. Thatās it.

The OG was heavily over moderated the last few years before its demise. This site is much better but thin skinned people may have a tough time. If you want a safe space and heavy censorship, head on over to Reddit.
I also donāt understand why people donāt use the ignore function more. Itās pretty easy to identify the trolls and shitbags - just ignore them if they rile you up or irritate the piss out of you. Heavier modding and more censorship is not the answer imo.
