Pixley is lethal with whizzer/ouchi mata

When you have somebody get an underhook on you or worse yet a double underhook like they are trying to bodylock you greco roman style sometimes your only option is to go with the overhook and turn away and hit them with a whizzer. There has to be disparity between a high school champions whizzer and an Olympic gold medalist right? Has the whizzer been fine tuned and perfected at the highest levels? Where is the exact placement of your fist and the crook of your elbow?

Who is this?

It is worth noting that being in the position to even engage in such a technique is not ideal.

Taisabaki is the way and if properly employed will avoid such an entanglement.

Ok. So you asked about 2 different scenarios.

  1. Single underhook. If a guy has a single underhook on you (let’s say his left arm is under your right arm), the first thing we teach athletes to do is to pinch down on hisnunderhook hard with your elbow, and drive your left fist into his crotch, while using your right hand to post on his shoulder or the inside of his head (side closest to you if you get inside head position. This creates space and an angle of attack allowing for you to either pummel inside, or even use your overhook to set up your own offense dependent on how your opponent responds. If he tries to “square up” you have different attack options. My favorite and I believe highest probability of converting into a takedown is to force him to square up, and lower your level, dragging your overhook had downward with weight on it to hit what old guys like me call a freight train double leg. You can also use his underhook to arm-drag and hit a double leg if you are skilled enough. At times, I actually arm drag and step my outside leg into his crotch setting up a body lock.

Second scenario you asked about is a double underhook.

  1. When a guy has double underhook a on you, your immediate concern is keeping distance between his hips and yours. If he steps in and gets his hips under you, you’re going to go for a quick flight with a sudden stop. Our wrestlers were trained to drive both of their arms downward and to post either in the crotch or preferably on his hips to keep distance. This stops his offense. Push away hard, and pummel inside to recover position. We always taught our guys never to sacrifice position chasing points. Keep good position always and the points will be the natural byproduct. Special note, though, is that people do not realize how important it is to have good head position when undercooks are in play. Keeping solid head position creates distance and angles, and can end up “standing up” your opponent. When this happens and you are pummeling in, there are always high crotch, single leg, and even double leg opportunities.

Also, and I probably should have led with this- what you’re describing is when you are transitioning from an overhook into a whizzer. The overhook and whizzer are similar, but not technically the same. The overhook BECOMES a whizzer in your described scenarios. Primarily, an overhook happens when you are squared up with your opponent. It becomes a Whizzer once you’ve created distance and angles.

I hope this helps.

Thats a got dam whizzer!!!

Mother fucker this is it. I knew the whizzer had to be much more than us low level wrestlers ever understood. Thank you so much for this detailed breakdown… I wish I could get on a mat and practice this with you. Is there a wrestling instructional you would recommend that would have detailed stuff like you just showed us?

Very true!!!, dont get in this spot of possible, but what was that big word you just used? What is that technique?

Comment you varmint, let us have ot

I have to come clean that was designed to agitate some nerds.

It is the phrase used a lot in Aikido primarily to avoid an attack.

But in practical terms maybe just getting off the center, movement, angles but. you know by the time the Sensei get a hold of hit they think they can avoid all engagements by side stepping and flipping people.

There are tone of things available these days as far as online. You can look up Jason Nolf or Cary Kolat. If you’re in the South FL area, I’ve got a spot we can go in and I can show you stuff. I’m too old and beat-up to go live, but I can 100%% teach the techniques and positions and drill them effectively with you at teaching/learning speed.

Also forgot to mention that if you happen to be in the Bay Area, I can connect you with a few people who are mad scientists with techniques like this. Just DM me and let me know where you are. I’ve got other guys scattered through the country. If you are near any of them, I can connect you.

Form Member @LJB has two sons who are elite level Greco-Roman guys too. Either of them can certainly teach you techniques and stuff from the overlook position that are straight up Greco, so you can YouTube Max or Otto Black and see a ton of super elite positioning and upper body techniques that are likely to help a lot in MMA and BJJ as well.

Of course I remember you but this soedicif detail

There was a forum member that seemed really familiar with Drrayel Pope was that you ?

Or another poster familiar with the CA scene from that time period ?

Damn will come back and edit when can see screen and see what typing

Yes. Darryl Pope was a killer. Legitimate legend in CA wrestling. I never trained with him as he is a few years older than I am, but his name was like the boogeyman for everyone who wrestled in CA in the 90’s through early 2000’s.

the iranians have top to bottom the best underhooks on the planet…

you could way worse studying how they use it in greco and leg grabbing…

I just hate when someone calls it a “wizard!” (Or uses Duels instead of Dual when two teams match up head to head.)
